  • MotoGP British: Fabio Quartararo Wins, Aleix Espargaro Earns Aprilia Historic Podium at Silverstone

  • Before the race of Monster Energy British Grand Prix, Yamaha announced that a triple title runner-up for Ducati, Andrea Dovizioso will return to MotoGP grid at Misano as Petronas Yamaha rider, ahead of a full 2022.
In the race, Fabio Quartararo (Monster Yamaha) took his fifth victory of 2021 season and marked his first win at Silverstone Circuit. He took the lead on lap five of 20 to open up a gap of 65 points in the championship over reigning world champion Joan Mir, who was ninth in the race.
Alex Rins (Suzuki Ecstar) earned his first podium of the year with a second place.
Aleix Espargaro (Aprilia Gresini) took a historic third, which was Aprilia Racing Team Gresini's first MotoGP podium. Also, it is his first podium since the 2011 Catalan GP in Moto 2 Class.
Jack Miller (Ducati Team) pushed Aleix Espargaro and overtook him in the final lap once, but finally finished 4th.
Polesitter Pol Espargaro (Repsol Honda Team) led the race in beginning, but was 5th.
Marc Marquez (Repsol Honda Team) and Jorge Martin (Pramac Racing) were contact at Stowe corner, then they crashed after more contact at Turn 9, and both riders were out of the race on Lap 1.

Fabio Quartararo said, “It was nice. During the race I was feeling really comfortable. The most stressful part was the starts because you never know if a rider is going to hit you or if you are going wide. Also here with the holeshot device was difficult. But yeah, as soon as I made the second lap I was behind the Espargaro brothers and Bagnaia and I overtook them step-by-step which was nice. I really enjoyed these overtakes. Then my pace was really strong but I never expected to pull away a second in one and a half laps. I will not change my approach. I'm enjoying so much to fight for the victories. Then the championship is something that comes when you make the results. At the moment my approach is still the same and of course if one race I feel like it's not possible I will not make any stupid mistakes. So my approach is still the same but of course you have more margin to play with. If we have the opportunity to fight for the victory or the podium then I will do it.”
