Sarah McLachlan Releases New Song “Gravity”
Canadian singer-songwriter Sarah McLachlan released a brand new song “Gravity” on August 8, 2025.
The song is the second single off of her upcoming tenth studio album “Better Broken”, which is set to be released on September 19, 2025 via Concord Records.
The track delves deeper into her emotional life and explores the complexities of her relationship with her older daughter.
It was written by Sarah McLachlan, and Thomas Luke Douce. Produced by Tony Berg, and Will Maclellan.
The accompanying music video was directed by Lauren Wade.
Sarah McLachlan said of the song, “For a long time my daughter and I had a very combative and fraught relationship, and what I came to realize is that so much of what I perceived as obstinance or rage was actually masking a ton of anxiety on her part. We went to counseling together, and I learned that she felt so alone and unvalidated by me-which was devastating to hear, but it led us both to change the way we communicate with each other. I wrote 'Gravity' as a way of saying to her, 'I've always loved you and want the best for you, and you're perfect the way you are.'”- She added, “11 years between albums, filled with a life well lived. I may have taken a 'hiatus' from recording to focus on other things, but never stopped creating. 'Gravity' is a song about the journey of motherhood, navigating relationships, and the steadfast love we all need in this life.”
The new album comprises 11 tracks, featuring a guest appearance from Katie Gavin of American indie pop band MUNA, produced by Tony Berg and Will Maclellan.
It is her first album in nine years since the 2016 album “Wonderland”. -
Sarah McLachlan said of the album, “A lot of the lyrics on this record came from thinking about the world right now and asking, 'How do we move through this landscape? How do we keep our heads above water when it feels like so much is falling apart?' I don't know if I have any answers, but channeling all that angst and uncertainty into the music has been so cathartic. I hope that this record provides people with some relief and release-but in the end I just want them to take whatever they need from it, and make the songs part of their own story.”
