Belinda Carlisle Covers Harry Nilsson's “One”
American singer-songwriter Belinda Carlisle will release her upcoming covers album “Once Upon a Time in California” on August 29, 2025.
The album is her ninth studio album and the first LP in eight years since the 2017 album “Wilder Shores”.
From the album, she released a cover of Harry Nilsson's “One” on August 1, 2025. The music video for the song, directed by John Stapleton, premiered on August 9, 2025.
The original version of the song was released by American singer-songwriter Harry Nilsson from his third studio album “Aerial Ballet” in 1968.
The song reached No. 5 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100.
It was written by Harry Nilsson. The cover version was produced by Gabe Lopez.- The new album comprises 10 tracks, including Dionne Warwick “Anyone Who Had A Heart”, The Carpenters “Superstar”, Gordon Lightfoot “If You Could Read My Mind”, Harry Nilsson “Everybody's Talking”, and more.
Belinda Carlisle recorded the album with producer Gabe Lopez in Los Angeles.
Belinda Carlisle said of the album, “I was born and raised in California at a time when music was an important part of Californian culture. I lived and breathed music, it was my great escape – a refuge of fantasy and imagination. Every day after school and when it was summer vacation, I would listen and sing along to the music on the radio for the entire day. Always fantasizing about being a singer myself, one day.” -
She continued, “This collection of songs is the best representation of what I loved back then that I could think of – listening to it brings back so many memories of a time and a California that doesn’t really exist anymore. That’s not meant to sound like a bad thing, it’s just different – there was an innocence and energy back then that was unique and magical. Things I doubt will ever be felt in quite the same way again. Here’s to the California of my dreams.”
