Rex Orange County Premieres New Song “Take A Drive” on BBC Radio 1
British singer-songwriter Rex Orange County premiered a new song “Take A Drive” on BBC Radio 1's New Music Show with Jack Saunders.
The song is his first solo music since the fifth studio album “The Alexander Technique”.
As the single, the song follows the collaborative song “Rearrange My World/There’s a Field (That’s Only Yours)” with Daniel Caesar.
On the track, he worked with American singer-songwriter and producer Pharrell Williams.
Rex Orange County said of the song, “It's hard to explain how honoured I feel to have worked with a true hero of mine. Someone who has had a hand in creating a lot of my favourite music. Someone I've admired, loved and studied for well over half of my life. In my opinion, the greatest in his field. Pharrell Williams, thank you for everything!”- Rex Orange County told Jack Saunders about the song, “The song is produced by one of my heroes, Pharrell Williams. I mean, I think he's a lot of our heroes. He it happened fairly naturally, I believe, was through my publisher, Pete. And we met in February of this year, right around the time I was playing shows, and we did a couple of sessions. But he's creative director of Louis Vuitton at the moment, so we had a little studio in the atelier, so we kind of going in and out, working on bags and then working on the song. But it was very insane to be around, and I was just obviously very starstruck, and such a huge fan as always, as you know, you can probably imagine.”

He continued, “We'd sort of made a few different ideas for the day, and then this one landed on this towards the end of the day, first day. And it felt like he was the one that said, it feels like driving away from a scenario. And there was a vocal that wasn't all the way written with lyrics. So it was definitely the idea that made the most sense and felt the most free. And also felt like it was half him and half me, and like a real collaboration.” - source : BBC Radio 1
