mgk Releases New Song “miss sunshine”
American rapper and singer-songwriter mgk, formerly Machine Gun Kelly, released a new song “miss sunshine” on July 25, 2025.
The song is the third single off of his upcoming seventh studio album “lost americana”, which is set to be released on August 8, 2025 via EST 19XX and Interscope Records.
The song is accompanied by a music video directed by Sam Cahill, as with the previous music videos for “vampire diaries” and “cliché”.
In the clip, mgk and his band appear as giants playing a mini guitar, riding in little cars, and singing in a miniature world. It is reminiscent of the 1999 Spike Jonze film “Being John Malkovich”.
It was written by Colson Baker and Emma Rosen. Produced by SlimXX, BazeXX, Nick Long, and No Love For The Middle Child.
mgk said of the song, “We have LSD to thank for this one. Got it done in time, video coming out with the song tonight.”
He added, “I was sick when I recorded miss sunshine that's why my voice sounds stuffy. On the vinyl you'll hear a different second verse because I changed it last week to the version you hear now.”- The new album comprises 13 tracks, produced by mgk, Brandon Allen, Travis Barker, Stephen Basil, Nick Long, and Andrew Migliore. It is his first album in three years since the 2022 album “Mainstream Sellout”.
He released a trailer for the album last month. The video was narrated by American singer-songwriter Bob Dylan.
Bob Dylan drawls “Lost Americana is a personal excavation of the American dream. A journey to find what's been lost. This album is a love letter to those who seek to rediscover it. The dreamers, drifters, the defiant. It's a sonic map of forgotten places. A tribute to the spirit of reinvention, and a quest to reclaim the essence of American freedom. From the gold neon diners to the rumble of the motorcycles, this is music that celebrates the beauty found in the in-between spaces. Where the past is reimagined and the future is forged on your own terms.” - source : Apple Music
