Rob Thomas Drops New Music Video for “Hard To Be Happy”
American singer-songwriter Rob Thomas dropped a new music video for “Hard To Be Happy” directed by Neta Ben Ezra on July 31, 2025.
The song was released as the double single, with B-side “Thrill Me”, from his upcoming sixth solo album “All Night Days” on July 11, 2025.
The new album comprises 11 tracks and is set to be released on September 5, 2025. It is his first album in four years.
Also It is the first release under his new label Universal Records.
The track was written by Derek AE Fuhrmann, Rob Thomas, and Todd Clark. Produced by Gregg Wattenberg and Grant Michaels.
Rob Thomas said of the song, “I wanted to write a song that felt happy. More than ever, we live in a time where personal and mental wellness can become a focus in your life. For that to happen, it needs to be acceptable to say, 'I'm not happy right now; I don't feel comfortable in my own skin.' The song itself is very no-filler. It shows, 'It's alright to be unhappy,' but it's wrapped up in a happy tune. The message is, 'I'm going to be fine, but leave me alone for this second!”- He added, “I wrote 'Hard To Be Happy' with this guy, Todd, and a friend of mine, Scott. We were in the middle of the zoom writings that were all going on near the end of 2020, and these zoom sessions and everything that we were writing was just sad and modeling. And so we had this idea that we wanted to write something that was happy and something that was upbeat. And I said, you know, it's just, it's hard to be happy. And so we just started first off to write a song about that and then it really hit us. How true that can be sometimes it's not always easy to be happy, sometimes you have to work at it.”
