Disclosure & Anderson .Paak Premiere New Song “NO CAP” on BBC Radio 1
British electronic music duo Disclosure, consisting of Guy Lawrence and Howard Lawrence, teamed up with American R&B singer-songwriter Anderson .Paak to premiere a new song “NO CAP” on BBC Radio 1's New Music Show with Jack Saunders.
This marks the first collaboration between Disclosure and Anderson .Paak.
For the duo, the song is the follow-up to “King Steps” with Pa Salieu, which was released last November.
The track was written by Brandon Anderson, Guy Lawrence, Howard Lawrence, and James Napier. Produced by Disclosure.
The accompanying music video was directed by Jackie Radinsky.
Disclosure said of the song, “Creating something with Andy has been a long time coming! We first met at our show at Forest Hills in NYC back in 2015 and have been fans of his for even longer,” Disclosure said. “The time finally felt right and the right song appeared. He’s one of the most talented musicians we have ever worked with and we can’t wait for you all to hear this one and perform it live together soon.”
Anderson .Paak said, “This collab is well overdue and I can’t wait to feed the people! We’ve been teasing the track for a little bit and it never misses! ‘No Cap’ is the ideal dance floor banger you don’t have to think about!”- Guy Lawrence told Jack Saunders about the song, “I would say that we have been talking back and forth with Anderson and been mutual fans for the best part of like, maybe 10 years. So you, all you need to know is this is 10 years in the making, and we finally got our stuff together and, it bangs so here's the result.”
Anderson .Paak said, “Sometimes good things, just take a while to happen. And when you tour as much as myself and these guys, it takes a while. And I think we both have very high standards. And it just took us being in a room and coming up with something from scratch. And that's how it went down, man, once I went to this new studio, the new digs. Guy was settled down. He had his little baby, family. He had his pool with the little floaty in the back. And we were able to make some matter. It takes the most perfect circumstances to make a banger of this caliber.” -
Guy Lawrence continued, “We had some food around my table, but it was mostly straight to work. I mean, I was impressed at how quick the whole thing came together. To be honest, because me and Howard, we'd already written the beat and the chorus hook. And so when Andy came round, we just sort of, I left like loads of space in the track for Andy to do whatever he wished it was. Was it going to be singing? Was he going to be rapping? I didn't know. But I was just remember him, like, pacing around this room for, I think it was, must have been just like, 90 minutes and boom, like both the verses and the pre chorus was there, and we redid the chorus, and it was like, there it is. It just appeared.”
Howard Lawrence said, “We had been writing for like, two weeks on staff, and we were all pretty burnt out. And we were like, let's just make something fun. And so Guy just put, like, a massive beat on, and I made the little thing. And then me and James Napier, our friend is, writes loads of our songs with us. We just started writing, like, kind of tongue in cheek. It's like, sleazy lyrics. And that's what we ended up with.” - source : BBC Radio 1
