Sarina Releases New EP “The Fool”
Tokyo-based pop-punk singer-songwriter Sarina released her third EP “The Fool” on September 12, 2025 via SyrenSong.
The EP is her first project since the 2024 EP “Break Out!!”.
Gaining its title from “The Fool” card in a tarot deck, the EP is a symbolic and illustrative collection of punk-tinged, alt-rock songs.
Inspired by a complex array of feelings and retrospective moments, the EP is themed around identity and the many facets of what that means.
The record traverses a wide emotional arc consisting of rage, resilience, guilt, recklessness, and deception.
The EP comprises 6 tracks, produced by Kevin Thrasher.
Sarina said of the EP, “In tarot, the very first card of the deck is called 'The Fool' and is often considered the most powerful card. Even beyond tarot, 'The Fool' can be many things: The jester, exempt from law. The poor soul played. Yet still reflecting strength and new beginnings. It felt the perfect fit to encapsulate this EP."- Sarina explained some tracks for the EP.
“Toast to the Broken”
“'Toast to the Broken' is a rebel anthem for the lost and the wayward. Fueled with rage and youthful recklessness, the song is all about running from whatever thoughts or feelings you don't want to deal with, regardless of how unhealthy the coping mechanism is.”
“Race with no end”
“'Race with no end' is a song about choosing to continue fighting even when it feels pointless. In a world where we are constantly being faced with comparisons and reasons why we aren't good enough, 'Race with no end is a hopeful reminder to persevere even in the face of darkness. Race with no end” is a kind of reminder to us all that even in our darkest moments, when we wonder what the point of it all is, we can choose to have hope. We can choose to try. There's a fire in all of us and sometimes we can't see it but that doesn't mean it isn't there. When you feel like you're not enough, remember that you are made of starlight, the sun is our ancestor and that light is always inside us.” -
“If you need me to be the villain (Then maybe I am)”
“'If you need me to be the villain (Then maybe I am)' is about an experience so many women have, especially in relationships, where we are made to feel like everything is ours to take responsibility for. No matter the issue, we feel like we have to apologize regardless of who was in the wrong. We reassure and apologize despite being the ones hurt. The song is a surrender just as much as it is a battle cry. In the same breath, I embrace my role as villain in your story, I question whether or not I'm the villain in my own story.”
“Fools Gold”
“'Fools Gold' is my most powerful song to date. It's about the smoke and mirrors of glamour and the rot that hides beneath. It's easy to paint pretty colours on top of festering wounds, to cover and hide and boast when deep down we feel the sickness, the decay, the lie of it all. That's why the song is called 'fools' gold. It's not real, the shine, the value, none of it is real. It's just a facade.”
