  • The Fear Releases New Song “SUFFERING”

  • Manchester-based alt-rock band The Fear, consisting of Mick Satiar (vocals), Ad Lucas (guitar), Adam Smethurst (guitar), Benj Ashmead (drums), released a new song “SUFFERING” on September 11, 2025.

The song is the follow-up to a cover of British rock band James' 1989 song “SIT DOWN”, which was released back in July.
The track was inspired by Brazilian author Paulo Coelho's 1988 novel “The Alchemist”, featuring electronically sampled rock with meaningful lyrics and huge choruses.
It was written by Adam Lucas, Adam Smethurst, David Radahd-Jones, Michael Satiar, Randy Slaugh, and Benj Ashmead, who also produced the track.

The band drummer Benj Ashmead said of the song, “The subject of the song came from a quote I stumbled on while doom scrolling - from The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho - about how fear is worse than the thing itself. That really resonated with me, so I decided to explore it from a personal perspective. Suffering is about facing the unknown head-on, because hiding from it is what really hurts.”
  • The band members, Benj Ashmead, Mick Satiar, Ad Lucas, and Adam Smethurst, were friends who once chased music full-time in various bands, only to walk away when the dream didn't quite pay off. They didn't speak for ten years.
But they started writing again together after a decade away.

Benj Ashmead said, “SWhen we were younger, we lived in a band bubble. We didn’t have much to reflect on - the words were surface-level, more about moment than meaning. Now, years of real life, loss, and growth have given us deeper stories to tell. Our lyrics carry more weight - confronting dark truths, struggles, and the complexities of outgrowing the past.”

  • The band embark on the UK Headline Tour this winter, opening at The Attic in Glasgow on December 6, stopping at Joiners in Southampton on December 11, before wrapping up at Deaf Institute in Manchester on December 13, 2025.
Tickets are available from their official website and Ticketweb.

The band frontman Mick Satiar said of the tour, “Announcing our first headline shows feels huge for us, and it'll be the first time we get to play Suffering live. Sharing that energy with a room full of people is something we've been dreaming about.”
