Flock of Dimes Releases New Song “Afraid”
American indie rock band Wye Oak's lead singer Jenn Wasner will release her upcoming solo album “The Life You Save” as Flock of Dimes on October 10, 2025 via Sub Pop Records.
From the album, she released a new song “Afraid” on August 20, 2025.
The song is the second single off of the album, following “Long After Midnight” released last month.
It was written and produced by Jenn Wasner. The accompanying music video was directed by Spencer Kelly.
The track features Alan Good Parker on bass, Jacob Ungerleider on keyboards, TJ Maiani on drums, and Adam Schatz on saxophone.
Jenn Wasner said of the song, “This was the first song I wrote for this cycle, and its arrival marked an obvious and definitive shift. I knew this was the start of something, but I had a long path to walk and lots left to learn. Along the way, this mantra kept me company: I did not enter this world afraid, and I refuse to leave it this way.”
She continued, “This song is an intention, an incantation, a prayer. It says: I accept what has happened, but I refuse to let it dictate the outcome of my life. We all enter this world untainted, and our circumstances dictate the weight that we will have to carry throughout the rest of our lives. For some, this weight is far greater than it is for others. This song is a mantra for those who wish to believe that we can transcend the circumstances over which we had no control.”- The new album comprises 12 tracks, written and produced by Jenn Wasner. She recorded the album at Betty's in North Carolina and at Montrose Recordings in Los Angeles.
It is her first album in three years since the 2022 album “Head of Roses: Phantom Limb”.
Jenn Wasner said of the album, “Put succinctly, this record is about addiction, codependency, and trying to learn how to find peace in the face of others' suffering. The story of this record is one that I've shied away from addressing directly, because in many ways I didn't yet have the perspective I needed to understand that it was also mine to tell.” -
She added, “I am so proud of this record-not just because of the songs, but because the fact that it exists and I am sharing it with you means that I am further along on my own path towards peace than I ever dreamed I could go. If you see yourself in any part of this short description, this record is also for you.”
