Ruel Premieres New Song “Wild Guess” on BBC Radio 1
Los Angeles-based Australian singer-songwriter Ruel premiered a new song “Wild Guess” on BBC Radio 1's Future Artists with Sian Eleri.
The song is the third single off of his upcoming sophomore album “Kicking My Feet”, following “I Can Die Now” and “The Suburbs”.
The album is set to be released on October 17, 2025 via Recess Records.
Ruel co-wrote the song with producers Dan Wilson and Leroy Clampitt.
Ruel told Sian Eleri about the song, “I think 'Wild Guess' is honestly my favorite of the singles. I think that one was super rewarding, because it was again that one came together really quickly. I just found it very satisfying to listen to this, because I feel like I hadn't written a song like that, like a reasonably up tempo song that felt like it had. I don't know, a bit more depth. But out of all the new ones, there's a song I probably the one I did with Kenny, just called 'destroyer'.”- The new album comprises 11 tracks, produced by Julian Bunetta, Dan Wilson, Kenny Beats, Leroy Clampitt, Ammo, Mark Schick, Elias Danielsen, and M-Phazes.
He said of working with seven producers on the album, “It was really special. I think all of them, apart from a couple I worked with maybe once before, when I was a kid, just doing random sessions in LA. But being able to do multiple weeks with these people and fully get into the weeds and trying to make a whole project with each of them was super special, and they're also so inspiring, and they all work so differently as well.”
He continued, The main, “I guess, challenge for it all was trying to make it feel cohesive when they've got, like, six, seven producers on the record, but it gave me, like, a chance to kind of step up and feel like, 'Okay, I've got to be the one to make this feel cohesive myself.' And that was a fun challenge for me, but it made me find a lot more certainty in what I wanted and kind of sonically, where I wanted to go for the record.” -
Ruel said of the album, “When I started writing again, after being on tour for the most part of 2023, I didn't know if I was ready for album #2. I'd just signed with Giant Music, and I was still figuring out who I wanted to be as an artist. But the process of writing this record- finding my closest collaborators, writing and rewriting over 200 songs, chasing ideas that felt more honest and real to me than ever… it pushed me to drop my guard and say what I actually mean. And that's what this album is, a collection of songs where I share things I truly truly mean.”
