  • Olivia Dean Releases New Album “The Art of Loving”

  • London-based singer-songwriter Olivia Dean released her sophomore album “The Art of Loving” along with a new music video for “So Easy (To Fall In Love)” directed by Jake Erland on September 26, 2025 via Capitol Records and Polydor Records.

It is her first album in two years since the 2023 debut album “Messy”.
The album comprises 12 tracks, which Olivia Dean recorded with producers Leon Michels, Matt Hales, and Zach Nahome at her home studio in East London.

Olivia Dean said of the album, “We made most of this album in a studio we built in a house in East London. For 8 weeks we lived in the house of loving! I brought my piano from home and all my favourite people and tried to create things that felt like warmth.

She continued, “It's funny, like there were points, like, after I decided it was called 'The Art of Loving', that there was points where I had, like, a lot of self about exploring love. Because I was like, God, it's quite like, obviously, so many songs have been written about love. It's like, what people write songs about. And I was just like, feeling a bit like, 'Oh, is it a bit of a base thing to do?' But then I was like, 'Absolutely not, like, it's the most important thing in the world.' And like, without sounding kind of cheesy about it like, it's completely necessary to even just for myself, like understand my understanding of love.”
  • Olivia Dean told Apple Music about the album title, “I had the title quite quickly.I've also been fascinated by love. It's the one thing that everybody is looking for in their life in some capacity, whether it be friendship, family, romantic, but it's something that we're not taught. There's not a love module in school. It's this magic thing we're supposed to know how to do. So I wanted to take a closer look at it and what it means to me and the art of it, the craft of loving someone properly.”

  • Olivia Dean explained some tracks for the album.

    “Nice To Each Other”
“Nice To Each Other is a song about the push and pull of exploring your independence in dating. It's about enjoying someone in the present and allowing it to be both light and meaningful. I think this song and video represents a playfulness in me.”

    “Lady Lady”
“Lady Lady is a song about the universe, Mother Nature, and accepting and trusting the plan she has for you. It's about the feeling of having to change just as you're getting used to a version of yourself. This song reminds me of the power we have as women; I think it feels like peace.”

“So Easy (To Fall In Love)” via ELLE
“I've had songs in the past that I've specifically written to uplift other women. Men, of course, can take what they want to take from it, music is for everybody, but I'm such a strong feminist, and I can't help but let that seep into my music. I've had friends go on first dates and be so caught up in worrying if the other person will like them and thinking about what they can be to slot into this person's life without actually stopping to think, 'Hang on a minute. Maybe this date is me just checking if I like them,' rather than putting all the emphasis on them liking you. I just wanted to say, 'You'd be really easy to fall in love with. Anyone will be lucky to have you in their life.' And it's easy to forget that sometimes. So I think this song is just a pat on the back when you're going out the door on your first date.”

“Let Alone The One You Love” via NPR
“I am very lucky that my mom and my auntie are very strong, independent women. My mom worked with the Women's Equality Party, which is a political party in the U.K. So, it just would be impossible for me to not be a really strong feminist. And I think I forget sometimes, I suppose when you live in a bit of an echo chamber, maybe, that not everybody feels that way. So, I feel it's important for me to drum that message home, and this song, I'm really proud of. I think often as women we always think about what we could be for somebody else and how we could kind of slot into their lives and make it better, and [we] forget to think about what that person's bringing to us. Because we're fabulous.”

    “Man I Need”
“'Man I Need” is a song about knowing how you deserve to be loved and not being afraid to ask for it. It's forward, sexy, fun! It's made for dancing!”

    “Something Inbetween” via NPR
“I think I used to view love in a bit more of a black-and-white sense and maybe from ideals that you kind of grow up with as a woman - that you need a partner, or once you're with a partner you lose an independence and your own sense of self. And I love, love, but I also can really function alone. And I was like, 'Well, what is that something in between where I am in love with you, but I'm also able to remain myself outside of this relationship.'”

    “Loud” via NPR
“Vocally it's quite exposing. It's a single vocal with a guitar and then strings. There was originally one take that was recorded and then I never sung it again, because I just found it to be too intense. It's quite a thing, I suppose, to sing to the whole world that you have been let down or that somebody didn't want to fall in love with you. And you're broken by it. I think it's something a lot of people could relate to, but it's not the most fun thing to share. I think I'm attracted to that vulnerability.”
