  • Doja Cat Releases New Album “Vie”

  • American rapper Doja Cat released her fifth studio album “Vie” along with a new music video for“Gorgeous” directed by Bardia Zeinali on September 26, 2025 via Kemosabe and RCA Records.

It is her first album in two years since the 2023 album “Scarlet”.
The album comprises 15 tracks, featuring a guest appearance from American singer-songwriter SZA.
She recorded the album in a three year period at Miraval Studios, based in Correns, France. Produced by Jack Antonoff, Y2K, Ambezza, AoD, Benjamin Boukris, Budee, Cha Wa, f a l l e n, Felix Joseph, Finn Wigan, Gavin Bennett, George Daniel, Jeff “Gitty” Gitelman, Kaeyos, Kurtis McKenzie, Rob Bisel, Scribz Riley, Sounwave, and Stavros.
It was inspired by '80s music and features themes of "love, romance, and sex".

Doja Cat said of the album, “The French word “Vie” (translated in English: 'life') was a choice of wordplay by me starting with the simple fact that this is my 5th album. I wanted to stretch this from the roman numeral 'five' tattoo on my collarbone. Five in numerology represents curiosity, adventure, and change. I chose Vie as a nod to La Vie en Rose and tied it together with the theme of romance and throughout this project I give my interpretation on love, sex, romance, pain, and wonder within a relationship. These songs can be pertained to the relationship with yourself or others. I feel strongly about the meaning of the word Vie because without life there is no love and without love there is no adventure. This is an adventurous album and with homages and nods to the 80's, 70's, and 90's, I wanted to give my own personal modern twist.”
  • She said of '80s, “There's something about, I think, the 80s that everyone really loves, and especially artists. I think, like a lot of people who enjoy music, have some really kind of visceral connection to the 80s to '80s music. There was something about the artists of that time that felt kind of like the beginning of a renaissance, or like a there was just something really inspiring about that time in that sense. That the 80s offered us prints. They offered us. I mean, it offered us like a lot of incredible artists, Michael Jackson, Janet Jackson, and so on. So I think it's kind of like it's always fun to just touch on that. And for me, I felt like committing to it with this entire project was something that was a challenge and worth trying.”

She said of the album cover art, “Falling in love is putting trust in the hands of yourself and others. The yellow parachute represents curiosity, happiness, and adventure. Flying you towards new experiences and scenes, taking a leap of faith, and holding no bounds. The tree represents life and wisdom. Giving you a sense of safety within its branches, but the pain from the fall teaches you that those scratches can be healed. You don't have to hit the ground. Love grows upward but more importantly down. It's the roots that keep you steady. This is the cover of my album.”
  • Doja Cat told Zane Lowe of Apple Music about the album, “I think I love talking about love. And I also think music is just such a door for expressing love in its different forms. And so it's the grappling with talking about something personal and creating something fresh, and then getting to know someone new. All of these things fell together really naturally. This album really grew from my sessions in therapy, and being so gung-ho on being there twice a week. And learning about the human experience and how our brains function subconsciously and consciously. I feel like I can do a lot more things that I could never do. It's just a more evolved, more mature version of whatever I've been doing since the beginning. I think that creativity is love. You risk a lot for love. And so when a musician loves what they do, sometimes that entails things that are kind of uncomfortable and scary. But it doesn't matter, because you love that thing so much.”

Doja Cat explained some tracks for the album.

    “Jealous Type”
“It's very sexy, the feeling of it visually. What we were doing was just quite girly. I think it's very catered to the inner girl, the young girl. I think the song matches it really well because it feels quite pop and I think really anything could go behind these [Marc Jacobs] visuals as far as what I've been doing with the album.”

    “AAAHH MEN!” via Apple Music
“'Amen' is one song off of the album that is very goody. I think what I wanted to do was play with my voice in ways that are a little bit less—, kind of unconventional.”

    “Gorgeous”
“This song is not about being in a relationship with someone else, it's about how you relate to yourself and how you feel about yourself. And that was something that I really wanted to kind of convey in this song.
I think it's sort of like, damned if you do, damned if you don't. If you feel good, people will try to bring you down, obviously. And if you feel bad, people will try to bring you down. So I think it's sort of it's up to you to give yourself that self love and that validation.
Who's the voice note from?, oh, that's my mother. So I actually was, I was in the middle of making the song, and I wanted her on it, because she's, like, such a big part of who I am. And it felt really all encompassing. And so I was like, 'Mom, can you record something for me, please?' And she was like, 'What do you want?' I was like, just want a voicemail, that's like, nice. And she just said that. And it was one take. She didn't really. She didn't have to do it more than once.”

    “Take Me Dancing” featuring SZA
“SZA makes me cry. I'm listening to 'Take Me Dancing' and it's making me cry. She's like a fucking angel, bro and I'm telling you, when she sings, it's actualyl unbelievable. She just sounds like a flower.”

    “Silly! Fun!” via Apple Music
“I speak about lovebombing in a way, that's kind of a big one, I think that's a fun subject to sing about. Sometimes people don't know that they're doing it or they do, but giving excessive compliments and gifts right off the batch, that sort of thing, I thought that was a really fun thing to write about. I have a song called 'Silly Fun,' that's the lovebombing song.”
