Carrousel Returns With New Song “Alone In America”

Los Angeles-based alt-pop duo Carrousel, consisting of Joel Piedt and Sharon Piedt, returned with a new song “Alone In America” on September 26, 2025.
It marks their first music in two years since the 2023 album “Part 1: Memphis, Endless”.
The song will appear on their upcoming album “Part 4: Memphis, Again”, which is set to be released later this year.
The new album is the fourth part of a 4-part album series. The duo has been working on the 4-part album series for over a decade.
The track was written by Miriam Pfister, Rosa Sharon Piedt, and Joel Piedt, who also produced it. The duo has already filmed a music video for the song, which will premiere on October 10, 2025.
Joel Piedt said of the song, “When I began writing what became Alone In America nearly a year ago, we were in the final week of a dizzying election cycle. I felt like a stranger to people who I had known and loved for years, and they did me. In me grew a sense of isolation that, to be honest, continues to this day. I sat down at my little black upright wurlitzer piano and began banging out chords while singing a one-note phrase on repeat: 'A - lone - in - a // A - mer - i - ca.' The immediacy of it felt satisfying and true, which is all I'm after when I sit down to write.”- He continued, “What came next was a travelogue of images from America, viewed like a flickering film through the window of a greyhound. America, where are you? In response, the land itself breaks down and weeps, offering up scene after scene played out upon and etched into its soil. And when it would seem all is utter dark, we then see light kissing that dirt, children playing on hands and knees made one with the earth. God, what I would give for THAT kind of connection–something more than on again, off again, on again, off...”

Part travelogue, part coming of age tale, each of the 4 albums is set within an American city that provides the landscape against which the characters' drama plays.
“Part 1: Memphis, Endless” begins the journey in Memphis, where a combination of bubble gum pop and Blues/RnB chronicles the slow-dawning movement from care-free innocence to world-wearied experience.
“Part 2: Nighttown” shifts the drama to LA, using a seedy, soulless pop to convey the extent of that which has been lost. Gritty, grungy, dark and ambient, it is an exploration of the loss of one's self, a space between light and shadow.
“Part 3: Magnificent Desolation”, the shadow has swallowed the characters whole. Set in New York City, the record uses jazz and hip-hop grooves, industrial drum machines, vocoders, shoegaze guitars, opulent synths, strings, church organs and samples run through washed out cassette tapes – a fragmented sounding technological nightmare all in the service of exploring the beauty and chaos of one's interior self amidst urban decay. - source : Apple Music
