  • Alison Brown & Steve Martin Announce New Album “Safe, Sensible And Sane”, Shares New Song “Dear Time” featuring Jackson Browne & Jeff Hanna

  • American banjo player Alison Brown and American actor Steve Martin have announce their upcoming debut collaborative album “Safe, Sensible And Sane” will be released on October 17, 2025.

The longtime friends and banjo aficionados have crafted a collection of banjo-inspired songs built on Alison Brown's daringly inventive melodies and Steve Martin's idiosyncratic yet ineffably tender lyrics.
The album comprises 12 tracks, featuring guest appearances from Tim O'Brien, Della Mae, Aoife O'Donovan, Sarah Jarosz, Jason Mraz, Jackson Browne, Jeff Hanna, Indigo Girls, Vince Gill, Michael McGoldrick, John McCusker and John Doyle.
Alison Brown and Steve Martin live recorded the album at Compass Sound Studio.
From the album, the duo released a new song “Dear Time” on August 22, 2025.
They teamed up with American singer-songwriter Jackson Browne and Nashville-based singer-songwriter Jeff Hanna on the track.
The song is the fourth single off of the album, following “5 Days Out” featuring Tim O'Brien, “Bluegrass Radio”, and “Wall Guitar (Since You Said Goodbye)” featuring Vince Gill.
The song is accompanied by the Matt Smukler-directed music video, which was filmed at the iconic Troubadour in Los Angeles.
It was written by Alison Brown and Steve Martin. Produced by Alison Brown and Garry West.
  • Steve Martin said, “With the banjo, there are so many styles you can work with, but Alison and I both have an ear for its more melodic, melancholy aspect. We got together and played music for days, and ended up making a record where our entire banjo histories coalesce.”

Alison Brown said, “We didn't start off by saying, 'Let's make an album.' We were just having a good time writing songs, and at some point we realized we'd written enough to gather them all together and put a bow on it. There was a joy and ease and sense of fun to the whole process, and now hopefully everyone who listens will share that joy.”
