BENEE Releases New Song “Underwater”
Los Angeles-based New Zealand singer-songwriter BENEE released the fifth single called “Underwater” from her upcoming sophomore album “Ur an Angel I'm Just Particles” on October 3, 2025.
The album is set to be released on November 7, 2025 via Republic Records. It is her fist album in five years since the 2020 debut album “Hey U X”.
The album comprises 12 tracks, which she has been working on for three years with producers ELVIRA, Josh Fountain, Leroy Clampitt, Luka Kloser, Matt Cohn, Mike Wise, Ryan Raines, and Spencer Zahn.
The track was written by Matt Castellanos, Matt Cohn, Pablo Bowman, and Stella Bennett. Produced by Matt Cohn and Mike Wise.
BENEE said of the song, “I wrote 'Underwater' about that disconnect between how effortless you seem and how heavy you really feel. I think a lot of people will recognise themselves in that.”- BENEE said of the album, “Ur An Angel I'm Just Particles is a deep dive into existential dread, where love, identity, and meaning slip through your fingers like sand. Each song grapples with the weight of existence. Feeling too small in a world too big, questioning whether connection is real or just another fleeting illusion.”
She continued, “There's a restless urgency here, a longing to escape yet nowhere to run, as the lines blur between self-destruction and survival, euphoria and emptiness. The songs unravel like diary entries, tracing the cycles of obsession, heartbreak, and fleeting ecstasy, all while wrestling with our inner demons and the fear of disappearing into the noise. It's an album for the sleepless, the over-thinkers, those staring into the void and wondering if it's staring back.” - source : Apple Music
