NewDad Premieres New Song “Everything I Wanted” on BBC Radio 6
London-based Irish rock band NewDad, consisting of Julie Dawson (vocals/rhythm guitar), Sean O'Dowd (lead guitar) and Fiachra Parslow (drums), will release their upcoming sophomore album “Altar” this Friday (September 19th) via Atlantic Records.
From the album, the band premiered a new song “Everything I Wanted” on BBC Radio 6 Music with Huw Stephens.
The song is the fifth and final pre-release single, following “Entertainer”, “Puzzle”, “Roobosh”, and “Pretty”.
It was written by Julie Elisabeth Dawson, and Justin Parker, who also produced the track.
The band lead singer Julie Dawson said of the song, “This was the song that kind of set the tone for this album. It’s basically about expectations versus reality. There’s this idea, I think we all fall victim to, that once we achieve something or get something we’ve always wanted, that we’ll finally be happy – but that’s never the case. It’s always, what’s next, I want more. This job can get very hard, very fraught, and I guess I had anticipated doing the thing I love most as my job would be easier and more fulfilling than this. ‘Everything I Wanted’ is me coming to terms with that.”- The new album comprises 12 tracks, produced by Shrink. It was written over the last two years and sees the band tackling their yearning for their hometown, having made the move to London, exploring themes of relationships, homesickness, ambition and sacrifice.
Julie Dawson said of the album, “The album itself is where I divulge my love for home. It's the idea that Ireland is the altar and it's the thing that I worship, in a way.” -
