AJR Releases New EP “What No One's Thinking”
American alt-pop trio AJR, consisting of Adam Met (bass), Jack Met (vocals) and Ryan Met (keyboards), released a new EP “What No One's Thinking” along with a new music video for “The Big Goodbye” on September 5, 2025 via their label AJR Productions.
It marks their first project in two years since the 2023 album “The Maybe Man”
Initially, the EP was supposed to be released on August 29, 2025. But they pushed back one week.
AJR said, “For the last few days we've been listening back to the What No One's Thinking EP, and we came to the realization it wasn't finished yet. This EP became a super honest picture of what our last year looked like, and we knew we'd regret it if we didn't go all out in that honesty. So we're pushing it back one week.”
The EP is a sequel to “What Everyone's Thinking”, which was released in 2016. Although AJR initially hadn't planned to write new music this year, a spontaneous conversation unearthed a wave of emotion they'd been quietly carrying..
The EP comprises 5 tracks, produced by AJR, and offers an introspective exploration of the quiet corners of everyday emotion.
The new music video was directed by Edoardo Ranaboldo.- AJR said of the EP, “Nine years ago, we released an EP of personal, vulnerable, weird songs and called it 'What Everyone's Thinking'. After we put that out, something happened that in a decade had never happened to us before. We actually started to make fans. From then on, we swore we'd always write about exactly what we were feeling. Exactly what we were thinking. Fast forward to this year. We sat down and tried to write, but nothing came, not a single idea. After months of frustrating writer's block, we realized something. We were suppressing a lot of shit. So we decided to write about that. And now we present to you a collection of songs that we did not want to have to write. We present to you our new EP 'What No One's Thinking'.”
The band added, “Our goal with this EP was to be as direct as possible in the songwriting - telling the story of our last year exactly how it happened, exactly how we'd write in a diary or say it to a close friend. It's the hardest collection of songs we've ever written, but the most rewarding to listen back to.” -
AJR explained some tracks for the EP.
“Betty”
“'Betty' is a very personal song about grappling with the idea of 'forever' with someone you love. It's about all the pressure we feel at this age to settle down, and the confusion that comes with it.”
“The Big Goodbye”
“Been working on The Big Goodbye literally for 5 years, rewrote it 7 times. We wrote this song about getting your dream and it maybe not feeling like you thought it would. It turned into this weird up and down adventure of a song.” - source : Apple Music
