Boyish Announces Debut Album “Gun”, Premieres New Song “Jumbos” on BBC Radio 1
New York-based indie rock duo Boyish, consisting of India Shore (vocals) and Claire Altendahl (guitar), has announced their upcoming debut album “Gun” will be released in September 2025.
From the album, the duo premiered a new song “Jumbos” on BBC Radio 1's Future Artists with Sian Eleri.
The song is the first single off of the album. It was written by Claire Altendahl and India Shore. Produced by Boyish and Loren Humphrey.
The accompanying live music video was directed by Ben Turok.
Claire Altendahl told Sian Eleri about the song, “This one, actually, we do reference Hackney. And it is a line about our time when we were in England and stuff that was fun. But it was based on experience we had in tour. And Jumbos is about, actually our favorite place in LA where we're based out of right now. It's from Jumbos Clown Room, which is one of our favorite dance spots. It's like super Lynching. It's a really cool vibe. And so we were both really inspired by kind of a bunch of experiences we had, but named it after Jumbos Clown Room.”- India Shore said, “I think the way the song fits into the rest of the album that's coming out. It works really well. It kind of stops and goes directly into another song. I feel like there's a lot of that on the album where tracks kind of go in and out of each other really nicely, which is definitely what we wanted. We want it to feel like one cohesive piece that kind of goes without stopping.”
Claire Altendahl said of the album, “We named it Gun. If you were thinking of a small town in America, what would it be called? Like, probably done. And so it's based off of a lot of these weird experiences we had on tour throughout the states and these small towns where everything's just kind of a little off. It's a little weird and unsettling. And so we made this town of Gun in our minds, and kind of wrote this tragic story throughout it. And so the whole album takes place in that setting.” -
The duo said of the album, “Gun is a fictional town, based on the surreal experiences we've had driving across middle-of-nowhere USA over the past three years. The idea of Gun came to India while she was bedridden for three months after breaking her leg in a freak surfing accident. The album is a love story set against the backdrop of this town, like it's the set of a play. This is not a pro-gun album, it's a pro-Gun album.” - source : BBC Radio 1
