Biffy Clyro Premieres New Song “Hunting Season” on BBC Radio 1
Scottish rock band Biffy Clyro, consisting of Simon Neil (vocals/guitar), James Johnston (bass) and Ben Johnston (drums), premiered a new song “Hunting Season” on BBC Radio 1's New Music Show with Jack Saunders.
The song is the second single off of their upcoming tenth studio album “Futique”, following “A Little Love” released last month.
The album is set to be released on September 6, 2025. It is their first album in four years since the 2021 album “The Myth of the Happily Ever After”.
The track was written by Simon Neil, and produced by Biffy Clyro and Jonathan Gilmore.
The band has already filmed a music video for it, which is coming soon.
The band lead singer Simon Neil told Jack Saunders about the song, “I'm as guilty as anyone. It's that how easy is to pass judgment on what other people do, what other people say. And I feel it at points, we all do, but I'm definitely guilty of it as well. And sometimes it feels like it really is just trying to survive out there. Just avoid the shots and avoid things. So that's kind of it's about fear, I guess, in that aspect.”- Drummer Ben Johnston continued, “It is get to hit them pretty hard on this one. Get to exercise some demons, I guess. And it's going to be a hell of a lot of fun to play live.”
Bassist James Johnston added, “Absolutely, it felt like a blessing. I think being in a band for such a long time, you've always appreciated the how lucky we were to do it. But I think after having a little bit of a break and coming back, it kind of reignites the fire and makes you really appreciative of what you have, and to be able to share it now is the kind of circle complete.” -
The new album comprises 11 tracks, produced by Biffy Clyro and Jonathan Gilmore.
Simon Neil described the record as “an exploration of ideas, objects or relationships that exist across time - we are never aware when we do anything for the last time and there's a beauty and sadness within that. What will be your Futique?”
Simon Neil told Jack Saunders about the album, “We were having a laugh earlier this song 'Hunting Season'. We've been playing it musically probably for about a year. And Ben one day was like, 'Yeah, this will probably be a single in the engines.' There's always one or two songs in a record that kind of give you the tale of it, and then everything else kind of follows underneath. And 'Hunting Season' and a song called 'Goodbye' that kind of gave the balance to the record. And that was also the two songs that everything else had to aspire to reach. You do because sometimes you write your first song and then you want everything to reach that. And then you write another one that hopefully keeps climbing. So it's a very big mountain by the end of it. But hopefully all the tunes made it up there.”
