Joy Crookes Premieres New Song “Somebody To You” on BBC Radio 1
London-based singer-songwriter Joy Crookes premiered a new song “Somebody To You” on BBC Radio 1's New Music Show with Jack Saunders.
The song is the sixth single off of her upcoming sophomore album “Juniper”, which is set to be released on September 19, 2025.
On the track, she teamed up with British singer-songwriter Sam Fender, who performed backing vocals.
The track was written by Barney Lister, Jonny Lattimer, and Joy Crookes. Produced by Joy Crookes and Blue May.
Joy Crookes told Jack Saunders about working with Sam Fender, “I think we made friends at the Mercury's (Mercury Prize) in 2022. And then, basically, one day, I was like, 'Hey, would you be up for some BVs on my song?' And he was like, 'I guess, yeah, sure. Can you pick me up from King's Cross?' And I was like, 'Sure.' So I picked him up in King's Cross, in my car, got in the car, we just gossiped about loads of stuff. Then we went to the studio. He did BVs and some guitar stuff. BV stayed. And then that's how Sam Fender ended up singing on my song.”- She continued, “This isn't a romance song, but it does sound like one. So I'm quite happy for people to interpret it as they want. But it's just about someone that is really special to me. And I think this song is about taking responsibility in relationships so much so that you sometimes lose yourself, and maybe lose your needs being met, and how that can be really detrimental in the end. Because not that everything has to be a two way street, but I think we all deserve to be seen by people that we adore.”

The new album comprises 12 tracks, featuring guest appearances from Kano and Vince Staples. It is her first album in four years since the 2021 album “Skin”.
Joy Crookes said of the album, “To try and explain this album has proved way more difficult than I thought and I think that's essentially because this album narrates an extremely difficult time in my life. To say it was full of ups and downs would be an understatement, this was a violently turbulent time full of moments of total hedonism where I felt extremely alive but also sadly full of periods of pretty crushing despair and extreme anxiety. Ultimately I had to confront darkness, drag myself out of the trenches and work so hard to get to a better place. it was painful and at moments seemingly impossible but I did it, I'm here and once again music was my saviour. The silver lining to a really dark cloud is 'Juniper', a body of work that I love and am very proud of.” - source : BBC Radio 1
