Say She She Releases New Song “Under the Sun”
New York-based punk-chic discodelic funk band Say She She, consisting of Piya Malik, Sabrina Mileo Cunningham, and Nya Gazelle Brown, released a new song “Under the Sun” on July 23, 2025.
The song is the second single off of their upcoming third studio album “Cut & Rewind”, which is set to be released on October 3, 2025 via drink sum wtr.
The band wrote the song during the 2023 Writer's Strike, but it takes on expanded meaning today in the wake of the city's recent ICE crisas.
It was written by Dale Jennings, Daniel Hastie, Nya Brown, Nya Gazelle Brown, Piya Malik, Sabrina Cunningham, Samual Halterman, and Sergio Rios. Produced by Sergio Rios.
They have already filmed a music video for the son, which is coming soon.
The trio said of the song, “'Under The Sun' is our summer ode to standing up to the man and is about the irony of living under pressure in a beautiful setting. We wrote it in Hollywood during the writers' strikes about the posited power of the union, but it also feels just as much of a tribute to people protecting their neighbors from military henchmen. It's meant to remind us that collective power, if harnessed in the right way, has the capacity to help us thrive and not just 'survive' in this beautiful land under the sun.”- The new album comprises 12 tracks and is the band's most expansive and ambitious work yet at once politically-charged and dancefloor-crushing.
It is their first album in two years since the 2023 album “Silver”.
Say She She said of the album, “Cut & Rewind is a snapshot of our lives over the past few years, inspired by the rugged reality of being on the road and running back into the studio to cut a record as soon as we were off. Then repeat! It's like our ode to the boss ladies out there for plowing through and staying true to what they are trying to do. We hope to offer it up like a homophonic cocktail that's served up, strong, no frills. It's peppered with some hints of our musical muses with a slice of life mantra on the side. We're here to remind you as much as ourselves to 'Hire the guy who's gonna look you in the eye'.” -
