  • shame Releases New Song “Spartak”

  • South London-based post-punk band shame, consisting of Charlie Steen (vocals), Eddie Green (guitar), Sean Coyle-Smith (guitar), Josh Finerty (bass) and Charlie Forbes (drums), released a new song “Spartak” on August 13, 2025.

The song is the third and final pre-release single from their upcoming fourth studio album “Cutthroat”, following “Quiet Life” and “Cutthroat”.
The album is set to be released on September 5, 2025. It is their first album in two years since the 2023 album “Food for Worms”.
The track was written by Charlie Forbes, Charlie Steen, Eddie Green, Josh Finerty, Sean Coyle-Smith. Produced by John Congleton.
The accompanying music video was directed by the band front man Charlie Steen.

Charlie Steen said of the song, “I was basically trying to write a Wilco song. I guess this disdain towards cliques comes from how shit I was made to feel by the cool kids growing u. I was a chubby teenager who liked the wrong type of music and wore the wrong type of clothes. It's just another time I'd like to say fuck you to those people, and to anyone who makes someone feel shitty for not fitting in.”
  • He continued, “This song came together quickly, just before we went in to record. It didn't need to be over-thought, or over-thunk, it felt natural and instinctive. As a band we've always had the ethos of embracing insecurities. Creating an environment where people can be themselves. This song's another fuck you to any person who's made someone feel ashamed of the things they love. The clothes they wear, the music they listen to, the person that they are. Spartak is a grin in the face of discomfort. An ode to the unwanted, who deserve more than they ever get.”

  • The new album comprises 12 tracks, produced by John Congleton. The band recorded the album at Salvation Studios in Brighton.
The album captures the big issues of today, such as conflict and corruption, hunger and desire.

Charlie Steen said of the album, “It's about the cowards, the cunts, the hypocrites. Let's face it, there's a lot of them around right now. This time, anything could go if it sounded good and you got it right.”
