Tame Impala Premieres New Song “Loser” on BBC Radio 1

Australian singer-songwriter Kevin Parker's psychedelic music project Tame Impala premiered a new song “Loser” on BBC Radio 1's New Music Show with Jack Saunders.
The song is the follow-up to “End Of Summer”, which was released back in July. Both songs will appear on his upcoming fifth studio album “Deadbeat”, which is set to be released on October 17, 2025.
It was written and produced by Kevin Parker. The track is funk-laden psych-pop song, unlike the previous song, which featured deep dance music.
The accompanying music video was directed by Sam Kristofski and filmed in Los Angeles. The video stars American actor Joe Keery, who is known as singer-songwriter Djo.
Also, American singer-songwriter Beck appeared on the video as a cameo.
Kevin Parker told Jack Saunders about the song, “With 'Loser', I guess it's like, we've all been that guy at least once. I feel like, that's all I have to say. So I think so it's kind of like, saying the name of the song. It sounds so like putting, but it's like the feeling of being. It's a song about feeling like a loser. It's not a song about being a loser, if that makes sense.”- He continued, “I mean for me, lyrics, I just sort of let lyrics sort of come out the way they want to come out. But I kind of just, like, I think I get a bit of a kick out of writing lyrics that are kind of just a bit tragic like that. I mean, that is kind of a feeling too, of feeling like a loser. It's like, you feel like a bit of a tragic, romantic.”
He said of the video, “We've hung out a couple of times. We just sort of bumped into each other, sort of when our paths have crossed throughout the world. But it all just came together. It came together so quickly. I can't really, we're all so surprised how quickly this video came together. It was like two weeks ago, we were thinking about it. And we're all just really hyped, like it was so fun to be on set with Joe (Keery).” -
The new album comprises 12 tracks, produced by Kevin Parker. It is his first album in five years since the 2020 album “The Slow Rush”. Also, it is the first release under his new label Columbia Records.
He was worked on the album over the last few years between his hometown of Fremantle and his studio, Wave House in Injidup, Western Australia in the first half of 2025.
Tame Impala will perform a DJ set as special guest at French electronic music duo Justice's upcoming Australian arena shows in December 2025.

The duo told Rolling Stone about Tame Impala, “We found out about Tame Impala in the late 2000s because when we were coming to Australia, we used to hang with the people at Modular.”
Previously, the duo was offered to remix Tame Impala's 2012 track “Elephant”. But they didn't make the remix.
They said, “Without exaggeration we were blown away. It was such a perfect track that we told the label, 'Sorry we can't do this, we're only going to make it worse.'”
