Mayday Parade Announces New Album “Sad”, Shares New Song “Under My Sweater”
American rock band Mayday Parade, consisting of Derek Sanders (vocals), Jake Bundrick (drums), Alex Garcia (guitar), Brooks Betts (guitar) and Jeremy Lenzo (bass), has announced the second installment of their 20th anniversary album trilogy, “Sad” will be released on October 3, 2025.
The album follows the first chapter “Sweet”, which was released back in April.
From the album, the band released the first single “Under My Sweater” on August 12, 2025.
It was written by Alex Garcia, Brooks Betts, Derek Sanders, Jake Bundrick, and Jeremy Lenzo. Produced by Zack Odom andKenneth Mount.
The accompanying music video was directed by Benjamin Lieber.
The band frontman Derek Sanders said of the song, “It's difficult to sing about a sweater without invoking Weezer, but that's part of what I love about this song. Under My Sweater wears its inspirations on its sleeve and feels both a part of old school nostalgic emo as well as something modern and a step forward for Mayday Parade.”- The new album comprises 8 tracks, produce by long-time producers Zack Odom and Kenneth Mount, as with the previous album “Sweet”.
It acts as a counterpart, with a softer, more introspective mood compared to the anthemic pop-punk album “Sweet”.
For their 20th anniversary, the trilogy serves as their eighth studio album and follows the 2021 album “What It Means to Fall Apart”.
Derek Sanders told Rolling Stone about the trilogy, “We just thought, 'What if we tried to do something bigger and more grand?' It's kind of an experiment and feels like the right time to try something like this.” -
