  • The Hives Releases New Song “Legalize Living”

  • Swedish garage rock band The Hives, consisting of Howlin' Pelle Almqvist (vocals), Nicholaus Arson (lead guitar), Vigilante Carlstroem (rhythm guitar), Chris Dangerous (drums) and Johan Gustafsson (bass), will release their upcoming seventh studio album “The Hives Forever Forever The Hives” on August 29, 2025.

The album is their first LP in two years since the 2023 album “The Death of Randy Fitzsimmons”.
From the album, the band released a new song “Legalize Living” along with a music video on July 7, 2025.
The song is the third single off of the album, following “Paint A Picture” and “Enough Is Enough”.
It was written by Chip Fitzsimmons, Montgomery Fitzsimmons, Randy Fitzsimmons, and Wilbur Fitzsimmons. Produced by Pelle Gunnerfeldt.
The accompanying video was directed by Filip Nilsson and Henry Moore Selde, who also directed the previous music video for “Paint A Picture”.
  • The band said of the song, “Have you ever felt as though life is strangling you a little bit every day? Like a tight rollneck or the hands of an invisible garden gnome? Do you feel like they are putting you in ever smaller cages and on ever tighter schedules? Are you relating to Michael Douglas in Falling Down? You are not crazy! Governments all over the world have slowly but surely taken steps to make living itself illegal. Stop normalizing this normalization! Join The Hives in the campaign for the legalization of living across all countries! Things must change now!”

  • The new album comprises 13 tracks, produced by Pelle Gunnerfeldt and Beastie Boys' Mike D.

The band said of the album, “This message is to inform you that International Rock Sensation The Hives, the best live band on the planet and still your new favourite band, lauded on all continents for their masterful skill and reckless abandon in the rock music field, have once again, sooner than you expected, created a new body of work the likes of which have never been heard or indeed probably will again. A new record so full of energy, joy, anger and life that you will be questioning reality as you have known it. They finally did it. Every single song a single, every single single a hit, every hit a direct hit in the face of the man.”
