Boz Scaggs Announces New Album “Detour”, Shares New Version of “I'll Be Long Gone”
American singer-songwriter Boz Scaggs has announced his upcoming twentieth studio album “Detour” will be released on October 17, 2025 via Concord Records.
This marks his first album in seven years since the 2018 album “Out of the Blues”.
On the album, he elegantly reimagined 11 timeless standards with tender insight and emotional sophistication. The album offers new discoveries, delivered with both reverence and a fresh perspective.
From the album, he released the first single called “I'll Be Long Gone” on September 4, 2025.
The song was featured on his 1969 self-titled album.
It was written and produced by Boz Scaggs. The track features Seth Asarnow on piano.
Boz Scaggs said of the song, “I get a lot of requests for it. He (Seth Asarnow) put together this beautiful arrangement... it ended up falling in perfectly with everything else we did for this album.”- The album began not with a grand plan, but with the simple joy of making music as a series of personal demos for him.
Pianist Seth Asarnow, and their informal sessions together became the heart of “Detour”.
Boz Scaggs said of the album, “I had no intention of making a record when I started singing these songs. It was all very casual at first, just an opportunity to explore a style of music I've always liked, to get together with a friend and play for the sheer joy of it.”
He added, “If I look at myself as a musician over the years, I'd have to consider my primary instrument to be my voice.” - source : Apple Music
