  • Princess Nokia Announces New Album “Girls”, Premieres New Song “Blue Velvet” on BBC Radio 1

  • American rapper Princess Nokia has announced her upcoming seventh studio album “Girls” will be released on October 10, 2025 via Artist House.

From the album, she premiered a new song “Blue Velvet” on BBC Radio 1's New Music Show with Jack Saunders.
The song the second single off of the album, following “Drop Dead Gorgeous” released back in June.
It was written by Al Von Staats, Destiny Frasqueri, and Joey Wunsch. Produced by Al Von Staats and Joey Wunsch.
The music video for the song was directed by Princess Nokia herself and will premiere on September 6, 2025.

Princess Nokia said of the song, “'Blue Velvet' is both delicate and sinister. It supports women's rights and women's wrongs. It straddles the edge of confrontation and dares predatory behavior to be reckoned with.”

Princess Nokia told Jack Saunders about the song, “Blue Velvet is so provocative. It's envelope pushing. It makes me want to rip my hair out, so good. The poetry is incredible. I think this track is extremely embodied of the woman's spirit of the dark feminine. I think that there's so many layers, poetry, pop culture, references, it's nuance. It embodies everything that women want to say and aren't allowed to. It doesn't beg to be seen. It forces its way in. It's an incredible piece of work.”
  • The new album is her first project in two years since the 2023 EP “i love you but this is goodbye”.
Princess Nokia said of the album, “I've always been a girl who has my own house, my own weed, and my own squad. I want to have fun with my friends for as long as I can. And I want my girlhood to last. I want my fun to last as long as possible. And I think that's a really beautiful thing.”

  • She told Jack Saunders about the album, “And girls is my seventh studio album. It all just came very natural. On my 32nd birthday, I had a sleepover with my cousin Beth. And we listened to Charlie xcx and exchanged family heirlooms. And that is the genesis of girls. I was in my home. We were on the property, we're in this beautiful country home. And I looked around and I got this really emotional. And I said, Oh, my word. I am in the thick of girlhood, but it's not in the urban landscape to which all of my previous work is tied to. It is completely elevated. Everything just became the world within girls. Everything I'm like, I'm a nut job because I have compartmentalized everything with the word girl to it. And it has created the landscape of the album. And it's a lot of fun. It's just, it's a lot of very girly.”
