Avery Cochrane Releases New Song “Shapeshifting on a Saturday Night”
Seattle-based alt-pop singer-songwriter Avery Cochrane released a new song “Shapeshifting on a Saturday Night” on August 8, 2025.
The song is the follow-up to “Corporate Ladder”, which was released back in May.
It is an upbeat and addictive shimmery alternative pop single.
The track was written by Avery Cochrane. Produced by Pete Nappi and Kyle Reith. The accompanying music video was directed by Marlena Lerner.
Avery Cochrane said of the song, “This song is about not having a strong or prideful sense of self, so you instead morph into whatever you think people want from you, especially in the context of a night out with friends who you suspect don't truly understand the real you (because you've never let them see it!!).”- She continued, “I wrote 'Shapeshifting on a Saturday Night' last March, mid-existential crisis (will I ever stop having those???), on my bed with my acoustic guitar. I had been fighting a common case of artist fatigue, but was committed to writing a song every day, nevertheless. Nothing had ever felt more true to me than the chorus lyrics as I wrote and sang them, so I immediately made a demo. I lived with seven other people at the time, and their conversations from the living room bled into the vocal tracks of the demo. I didn't bother re-tracking, because their background chatter ended up giving the song the rest of its meaning as my internal monologue amidst the world's external noise. Nearly 1.5 years later, it's yours for the taking, listening, dancing, and crying. I hope you love it as much as I do.”
