  • Biffy Clyro Releases New Album “Futique”

  • Scottish rock band Biffy Clyro, consisting of Simon Neil (vocals/guitar), James Johnston (bass) and Ben Johnston (drums), released their tenth studio album “Futique” along with a new music video for “Goodbye” on September 19, 2025.

It is their first album in four years since the 2021 album “The Myth of the Happily Ever After”.
The album comprises 11 tracks, produced by Biffy Clyro and Jonathan Gilmore.
The band described the record as “Futique - a word for those beautiful, sad, and fleeting moments that only become significant in hindsight. An exploration of ideas, objects or relationships that exist across time - we are never aware when we do anything for the last time and there's a beauty and sadness within that.”

The band frontman Simon Neil said of the album, “I wanted every song to melodically scale the peak of the mountain, it's a really melodic record. I also wanted to sing from my heart. When I listen back to our songs I want to feel like I've been brutally honest with myself, because what's the point otherwise? I want to make sure that we make something beautiful that I can listen to in ten years and feel like that was everything I could give at that moment.”
  • He continued, “And to be honest, I spent a couple of years away making, like, some really heavy metal music with mother band, ESB. And for it, it made me fall in love with melody and songs, so much so it's probably one of the poppiest records we've ever made. By the time I'd finished touring ESB, I had like, eight or nine songs, and I was like, 'Wow, where did these come from?' But they were just joyous.”

He added, “There's always one or two songs in a record that kind of give you the tale of it, and then everything else kind of follows underneath. And 'Hunting Season' and a song called 'Goodbye' that kind of gave the balance to the record. And that was also the two songs that everything else had to aspire to reach. You do because sometimes you write your first song and then you want everything to reach that. And then you write another one that hopefully keeps climbing. So it's a very big mountain by the end of it. But hopefully all the tunes made it up there.”

  • The band explained some tracks for the album.

    “A Little Love”
Simon Neil: “It's going to be you want to hug everyone you love. I mean, I guess it's like anyone that's been in relationship with someone for more than one decade. You find out a lot about each other and yourselves. And no matter how many tough situations you go through with the people that you love. If you always retain that, and it sounds a bit cheesy, a little bit happy, but if you always remember that deep connection that you have, then you can kind of conquer anything. And as the band, we've observed challenges the last few years, but when we can chunk it down to why we started this band, which is where three buddies, like that everything kind of fades into the background. So that's what the song is. It's like, I want to strangle you, but I love you so much.”

    “Hunting Season”
Simon Neil: “'Hunting Season' is saying, 'I don’t know if I can judge myself through the eyes of someone else.' It’s hard enough to know who you are and what matters to you, but if you’re worrying too much about how other people are seeing you then you don’t stand a chance. I feel like we’re all judged so much by people in the outside world who don’t know anything about us and that can be really scary. I'm as guilty as anyone. It's that how easy is to pass judgment on what other people do, what other people say. And I feel it at points, we all do, but I'm definitely guilty of it as well. And sometimes it feels like it really is just trying to survive out there. Just avoid the shots and avoid things. So that's kind of it's about fear, I guess, in that aspect.”

    “Goodbye”
Simon Neil: “I began to realise that I just wanted to feel more present. It's a reminder that life isn't just your good times, it's everything that you experience.”
