Twenty One Pilots Premieres New Song “Drum Show” on BBC Radio 1
American alt-rock duo Twenty One Pilots, consisting of Tyler Joseph (vocals/keyboards) and Josh Dun (drums), premiered a new song “Drum Show” on BBC Radio 1's New Music Show with Jack Saunders.
The song is the second single off of their upcoming eighth studio album “Breach”, following “The Contract” released back in June.
The album is set to be released on September 12, 2025 via Fueled by Ramen. It is the follow-up to the 2024 album “Clancy”, and concludes the duo's decade-long conceptual series which began with the 2015 album “Blurryface”.
On the new track, the band drummer Josh Dun performed vocals for the first time. The accompanying music video was directed by Mark C Eshleman.
Tyler Joseph said of the song, “Our second 'single' (whatever that means anymore) comes out Monday. It's called 'Drum Show' and all I'll say is that Josh might be doing more than just drumming on it. Proud of that guy. The music video for 'Drum Show' (which Mark crushed) drops with it, but is not a part of the story of Dema and Clancy and Torchbearer.”
Josh Dun told Jack Saunders said of the song, “I mean, I think the idea is like, high school, college, sort of like angst, when you're driving to and from school or work. And it's music is kind of the only thing that you've got. And sometimes you just gotta get out all the aggression on the steering wheel.”- He said of vocals of the song, “I think drumming is still the main, the main thing for me. But it's fun though, I think being a two person band, we've always kind of challenged each other to, kind of like, expand or push ourselves to do a little bit more. I think putting yourself in a situation that's a little uncomfortable is fun.”
Tyler Joseph said, “He was pretty nervous going in, and I was a little nervous too. I didn't know what he was gonna give me to work with, but he crushed it. And not only did he sing kind of lower, but he also sang a higher part. And he thought, when he heard it back after I mixed it and stuff, he thought that that was me just layering my higher vocal with it. I was like, 'No, dude, that was you all off. There was nothing, no me in there at all.' And so, really proud. So it was awesome.” -
The album comprises 13 tracks. A music video for the first track “City Walls” is set to be released on September12, 2025.
Tyler Joseph said of the video for “City Walls”, “So the first song on the record is called 'City Walls'. And that's going to be the one that has a music video that kind of wraps up the whole story. And it's the biggest music video we've ever done. It's the most money we've ever spent on a music video. It was five days of shooting. And so that first song on the record really is the sound bed for the final part of that story.”
He continued, “There was moments we had to recreate old music videos to bring into this music video. So I was wearing clothes that I had been hanging on to for almost a decade. And I've still fit in almost like, 'That's dope.' So it was recreating the old music videos to fit in with this music video was the thing that probably was the most expensive and most difficult to do. But that's gonna be the part that's the most exciting is to see how all these old videos come in and tie in with this new video.”
Tyler Joseph shared on social media, “I'm so so pumped for you guys to hear this record. 'Breach' took everything I had left; but as I stare at these finished wav files, I realize how little they mean until they get to you. Fans of this band have given me so much fulfillment and purpose. Thank you for that. The end of that story takes place in the music video for the album's opening track, 'City Walls', and comes out with the album on Sep 12th. I can honestly say I'm just as excited for you to see this freaking video as I am for you to hear the whole album. But then the story is over. Side note: that last song is really important to me, and is my attempt at understanding the ending of the City Walls video.” - source : BBC Radio 1
