Good Neighbours Announces Debut Album “Blue Sky Mentality”, Premieres New Song “Suburbs” on BBC Radio 1
London-based pop duo Good Neighbours, consisting of Oli Fox and Scott Verrill, has announced their upcoming debut album “Blue Sky Mentality” will be released on September 26, 2025.
From the album, the duo premiered a new song “Suburbs” on BBC Radio 1's New Music Show with Jack Saunders.
The song is the fifth single off of the album, following “Ripple”, “Starry Eyed”, “Home”, and “Keep It Up”.
It was written and produced by Oli Fox and Scott Verrill.
The duo said of the song, “'Suburbs' is a message back to our younger selves. Coming from small towns outside of London, it was hard to dream big without getting shot down. This track is our anthem for breaking free from that mindset and chasing something bigger.”
They told Jack Saunders about the song, “It's kind of an ode to our younger selves this one, we're really really excited about. It's about getting out of your small town and dreaming big.”- Oli Fox continued, “We've been playing this one probably for about eight months now. We wrote it pretty early on, and for us, it's just been a really good one live. It lifts the set. And as I say, it's kind of like one of our mottos of getting out of your small town and where people sometimes might close your ceiling in a bit. It's about getting out and dreaming big. And we hope that sort of inspires our fan base a bit as well.”
The debut album comprises 14 tracks, produced by Oli Fox and Scott Verrill.
The duo said of the album, “Blue Sky Mentality has been our motto since day one. Our band began as a kind of light relief - a creative outlet to break from jobs that we couldn't stand and some tough personal times. Over the last year, we ran with that feeling, writing our debut album on the road - in the back of tour buses, hotel rooms, and scattered corners of the world. That's what 'blue sky mentality' means to us-finding light, friendship and a sense of escapism wherever you are.” -
Oli Fox told Jack Saunders about the album, “I mean, we were talking about it a lot. We've always said since literally, the first song we made. 'Blue Sky Mentality' is like our motto. So you can take any problem, put a blue sky over the top of it, and it sort of makes it quite accessible, kind of like the towns we came from, they might look rubbish on a rainy day, but a blue sky can make anything look good.”
Scott Verrill continued, “I think like, as soon as 'Home' came up, we kind of went straight on the road. And we've been doing that for like, a year and a half now. So it's kind of not given us time to overthink anything. Like we've just been finishing bits as we go like, the same way we started this project.”
Oli Fox added, “Honestly, in the same way that Scott was just saying we haven't overthought anything. And I think not being in a fancy studio and not having access to too much more than like, our iPhones, a mic, a small interface. Everything has been very bare bones with this record. And it's kept that scrappiness at home had, because that was in a rush when we made that one. So there's a nice theme throughout.” - source : BBC Radio 1
