Austra Releases New Song “Siren Song”
Canadian singer-songwriter Katie Stelmanis' electronic music project Austra will her upcoming album “Chin up Buttercup” on November 14, 2025 via Domino Recording.
Austra said of the album, “Buttercup is my emotional-demon alter-ego. I'm excited to share more of her world with you in the coming months.”
From the album, she released the second single called “Siren Song” on October 7, 2025, following “Math Equation” released back in August.
The song was inspired by ABBA, Ray of Light, and The X-Files.
It was written by Katie Austra Stelmanis, Kieran Adams, and Sean Patrick Holland. Produced by Austra and Kieran Adams.
The accompanying music video was directed by Vanessa Magic.- Austra said of the song, “Siren Song' exists somewhere at the intersection of ABBA, Ray of Light, The X-Files and Greek mythology. ABBA inspired the early songwriting with Patrick. The Siren introduced herself to me, while I was improvising the demo recordings and I quickly realized that Orpheus would be our common nemesis. Following a recent X-Files binge, I was heavily inspired by Mulder's desperate search for his sister. Ray of Light came in at the end as my co-producer Kieran Adams and I were establishing the sonic realm which would become the backdrop for our Siren to lament the loss of her lover to Orpheus and his pesky Lyre.”

She shared on social media, “Following allegations made against director K. Stelmanis of cultivating a toxic work environment, Buttercup has ventured out on her own. Today we've learned that in her new role she will play a love-lorn siren in the famous Greek tragedy, Siren Song.”
