Wolf Alice Performs on BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge
London-based alt-rock band Wolf Alice, consisting of Ellie Rowsell (vocals/guitar), Joff Oddie (guitar), Theo Ellis (bass) and Joel Amey (drums), appeared on BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge to perform “The Sofa”, “Just Two Girls”, “Thorns”, “White Leather”, and a cover of Olivia Dean's “Nice To Each Other”.
The original version of “Nice To Each Other” was released by British singer-songwriter Olivia Dean as the lead single from her upcoming sophomore album “The Art of Loving” back in May. The new album is set to be released on September 26, 2025.
“The Sofa” and “Just Two Girls” are featured on their latest album “The Clearing”, which was released on August 22, 2025. “White Leather” was released in 2016.
The band lead singer Ellie Rowsell told Sian Eleri of BBC Radio about the latest album, “We are really proud we had a long journey to get it done, and we're still enjoying listening to ourselves. And we had a vision for it, and I feel like, we proud of how it turned out. I'm proud of you guys. Everyone, I forgot to say, well done.”- On “The Clearing”, the band worked with producer Greg Kurstin.
Bassist Theo Ellis said of working with Greg Kurstin, “Absolutely, Greg, I've been saying he's like a unicorn in the music world, because he's like one of the best producers in his own right, and also one of the best songwriters in his own right, and also one of the best musicians. I mean, he is a complete one off, and he's such a wonderful person, very kind, very gentle, and he listened to us, and kind of tried to work out how he could facilitate us making this record, rather than, how do I do this for them. So he was a wonderful coach and person, just an inspiring person to work with on a personal and kind of musical and professional, all that levels. He's quite the guy.”
Guitarist Joff Oddie continued, “I think he's like, he's like, you know, everyone keeps saying he's a great facilitator. He made you feel really comfortable and right, gave you the confidence to try and push yourself to realize your ideas. Having him and he's the best. And, like, I think also, there's a lot to be said for people's personalities, because it's like an emotional thing, like people are sharing things and feeling, you can feel left to be filled quite exposed, and he's lovely. And I think not saying that loads of people in music aren't lovely, but he's a rarity in that sense, and he really just made us feel really at home to be creative. And I think that's should be applauded, like it's really a lovely thing to do.” -
The band explained each song.
“Just Two Girls”
“I kind of took bits off different relationships to make the ultimate one, ultimate one friend. But I really just did come away from a couple of chats, some a couple of nights out, or feeling like a whole weight off my shoulders. And I think just wanted to give gravitas to that I felt it deserved. So it all comes from real experience.”
“Thorns” & “The Sofa”
“Sometimes you have conversation the studio where, like, even before you finished it, you kind of get on the same wavelength. And I feel like 'thorns' early on felt like and we've said that the curtain. I mean, there's lyrics alluding to this, but the curtain of the album like lifting, and there's wolf Alice album four on stage. And we were so like, thinking about the performance of the record and our performances when we were recording, it just seemed, it just seemed like the right opener, and with 'The Sofa', we all kind of looked at each other in the studio and we're like, that's probably gonna close this record.”
“White Leather”
“I don't even know if it really fits the new vibe, but I think it just never really got, I don't know it's quite emotional, and maybe it's, we're a bit nostalgic for the past, and it reminds us of our teenage selves or something. So just feels quite it's got, it's a nice hit of nostalgia.
A hell of a 10 years. I don't know if we feel that reflective. But like we were saying bringing back an old song like that, sometimes it pops up, and just naturally, all of us seem to be grow like, fond of it again, and we're like, let's get let's bring that back. And that's been really sweet. And I suppose that's kind of a subconscious reflection just by playing it.” - source : BBC Radio 1
