The Last Dinner Party Performs “The Scythe” & Cover of Chappell Roan's “Naked In Manhattan” on BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge
British indie rock band The Last Dinner Party, consisting of Georgia Davies (bass), Lizzie Mayland (guitar), Abigail Morris (vocals), Aurora Nishevci (keyboards) and Emily Roberts (guitar), appeared on BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge to perform “The Scythe” and a cover of American singer-songwriter Chappell Roan's “Naked In Manhattan”.
This marks the band's second appearance as a musical guest on BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge since 2024.
“The Scythe” was released as the second single from their upcoming sophomore album “From The Pyre”, which is set to be released this Friday (October 17th).
It was was written by Abigail Morris, Aurora Nishevci, Casper Miles, Emily Roberts, Georgia Davies, and Lizzie Mayland, and produced by Markus Dravs.
The band said of the song, “This song began 9 years ago, like a prophecy. I wrote it before I had known anything of grief or heartbreak, how a relationship ending feels exactly the same as that person dying. Once you know how it feels to lose someone you enter a new realm from which you can never return. You're trying to reach them telepathically through psychics or song lyrics (sometimes those two become the same) and sometimes they give you a reply. It can take 9 years to realise you're even grieving at all but once you do you see them everywhere - in a robin, in a street fox, in a Wim Wenders film. The Scythe comes for everyone and you shouldn't be afraid about what's on the other side.”- “Naked In Manhattan” was released by Chappell Roan as the lead single from her debut album “The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess” in 2022.
It was written by Chappell Roan, Skyler Stonestreet, and Dan Nigro, who also produced the track.
The Last Dinner Party said of the song, “It's our favorite Chappell song. We really wanted to do a Chappell song because we love her so much. And this is our favorite. So we're glad that we got to do it.” -
The new album comprises 10 tracks, produced by Markus Dravs. It is their fist album in over a year since the debut album “Prelude to Ecstasy”.
The band told BBC Radio 1 how they felt making their second album compared to their first, “We were more confident, for sure. I think because we'd done one, I don't know. We were just really, really, just bursting to get in the studio, make more songs and put it together. And there was just an air of excitement. I think when we were doing it.” - source : BBC Radio 1's Live Lounge
