  • Jeangu Macrooy Releases New Song “Independent Girls & Nasty Evil Gays”

  • Surinamese-Dutch singer-songwriter Jeangu Macrooy released a new song “Independent Girls & Nasty Evil Gays” on July 4, 2025.

The song will appear on his upcoming fourth studio album “Young, Awkward & Lonely”, which is set to be released this fall.
The track is a satirical protest anthem against sexism and queerphobia that uses humor and anger to dissect the patriarchy, delivered as a fun, catchy bop with an important message.
It was written by Jeangu Macrooy, and Jasper Zuidervaart, who also produced the track.

Jeangu Macrooy said of the song, “It's a funny, sarcastic protest anthem for the girls and the gays. I wrote it from the perspective of people who blame feminism and queerness for everything that's 'wrong' in the world - just to highlight how ridiculous and outdated that mindset really is.”

He continued,“The time feels right. The world's grown increasingly hostile towards LGBTQ+ people, and the rights we've fought so hard for are being challenged in real and terrifying ways. The song is also feminist, because women's rights are under attack too. It felt urgent, it felt necessary and it felt like the right moment to make some noise.”
  • He added, “I want queer people to feel empowered to live even louder. In the face of hate, we shouldn't shrink ourselves. We deserve nothing less than full freedom to be our authentic selves - without apology, without compromise. I hope this song also inspires allies to speak up, show up, and join the fight for equality. Because silence is not neutral.”

The song is accompanied by the Guido F. G. Jeurissen-directed music video.
Jeangu Macrooy said of the video, “It's a very tongue-in-cheek, over-the-top satire, and we leaned all the way in. It's camp, it's chaos, and it's got a message.”

  • Jeangu Macrooy shared on social media, “The world is growing increasingly hostile towards queer people and independent women.
A few months ago, I felt the urge to write something to push back against how absurd and exhausting queerphobia and misogyny really are. Sometimes, all the hate in the world can feel paralyzing. But then I remember: in the face of hate, we must refuse to shrink. Now is the time to be louder, prouder, and braver than ever. Let's take up space. Let's make noise. Let's be too much. This one's for my Independent Girls & Nasty Evil Gays.”
