  • Laufey Premieres New Song “Snow White” on BBC Radio 1

  • Icelandic-Chinese jazz singer-songwriter Laufey premiered a new song “Snow White” on BBC Radio 1's New Music Show with Jack Saunders.

The song is taken from her upcoming third studio album “A Matter Of Time”, which is set to be released on August 22, 2025 via Vingolf Recordings and AWAL.
Laufey wrote and produced the song, with production Spencer Stewart. The accompanying music video was filmed in Iceland and directed by her sister Junia Lin, as with the previous video for “Lover Girl”, which was released back in June.

Laufey said of the song, “'Snow White' is about the never ending chase for perfection that comes with being a woman. It's about looking in the mirror and seeing all the ways in which you can improve yourself.”
  • Laufey told Jack Saunders about the song, “It's not a very optimistic song, so I wouldn't go in very hopeful. It's a little bit cynical. It's called 'Snow White', because I grew up in Iceland, and obviously it's very snowy there. It's also very white. I was like, the only Asian person around, so I always felt very odd. And for me, it was kind of a way of showing how different I felt growing up. And actually, the original illustration of animation of Snow White was based on Icelandic woman. I still to this day, when I'm having a bad day, I listen to Snow White, and it kind of consoles me in a weird way, because I'm like, Okay, those are my feelings, and it doesn't have to overtake my whole life. It can just exist in the bubble of this song for now and hopefully serve as a comfort for somebody else.”

  • The new album comprises 14 tracks, produced by Spencer Stewart and American rock band The National's Aaron Dessner.

Laufey said of the album, “It's about the things you learn about yourself when you're falling in love, and all the anxiety and the trauma and the delusion that comes with that. And it's also about growth. It's about you think you're finished growing up at a certain age and that, but then you continue growing up in different ways.”
