Royale Lynn Releases Debut Album “BLACK MAGIC”
Nashville-based Canadian hard rock singer-songwriter Royale Lynn released her debut album “BLACK MAGIC” on June 27, 2025 via Epitaph Records.
The album comprises 12 tracks, featuring a guest appearance from British rock band Asking Alexandria's lead singer and singer-songwriter Danny Worsnop, produced by Jonathan Roach.
Originally, she played country music until 2023, but she changed music genre to hard rock in 2024. The album is her first project after changing music style.
Also, the album was inspired by her struggles with mental health.
Royale Lynn said of the album, “Every song on BLACK MAGIC is about mental health; I want to tell my stories in hopes that it might help others. I think that music saves lives. Growing up, I struggled with managing my mental health, and I know some of my best friends struggled, too. I think this music gives us a safe space where we can be honest with ourselves. I wanted to show the community that they aren't alone.”
She continued, “'You ain't seen darkness in this light...' Welcome to the darkest parts of my mind… I've created a concept record that takes you on a journey through 'Pandora's Box'.. each one of the songs being an evil that escaped but around a mental health point of view. If you're familiar with the Greek myth, the only thing left in Pandora's box was hope… and that's what this album represents.”- Royale Lynn told New Noise Magazine about the album, “It’s been really cool to go on this journey and figure out what I sound like and what I wanted to say as an artist in the rock scene. Everybody’s been so nice and accepting of me and my band, and I’m so grateful for that. Because I did come from the country, and I’m not ashamed of that at all... It’s really cool to see that there’s other people who enjoy metal and hard rock and still have an upbringing that maybe isn’t conventional. Which is funny, because I feel like a lot of us are from small towns.”
She continued, “When I approach music, I'm very much like, 'It is a story'. If you listen to every single song, it takes you on this journey. And I think that's so cool in the country world that they can flip a hook, and you're like, 'Oh my God, we're talking about this now, but I thought we were talking about this.' And pop music too. Pop music is so different from country, and I would say there's a lot of pop influence in these songs as well on the record, but their song structure is not the same as a country song structure. So it's really cool to be able to build this thing that maybe someone hasn't heard yet.” -
Royale Lynn explained some tracks for the album.
“E.V.I.L.”
“'E.V.I.L' is such a special song, we really tried to push outside of the box incorporating dance elements to a nu-metal song. It has dark lyrics with a fun beat behind it, that is sure to get your head bopping.”
“BLACK MAGIC” via New Noise Magazine
“When we wrote 'BLACK MAGIC,' I was like, 'Oh my God.' (It's) the only love song on the record. I feel like I have a very dark heart, and that one was so special to me. I feel like the album totally represents a part of my soul.
“SACRIFICE”
“SACRIFICE” shows a vulnerable side of me, it portrays my journey of dealing with my mental health while navigating the music industry,” she explains. “I want to show people that it's okay to have struggles and talk about them openly because you should never let it stop you from doing what you love.”
“PANDORA'S BOX” via New Noise Magazine
“'Pandora's Box' was kind of like fitting this puzzle together. And that's why I think the record became what it is now, because of all the overthinking that I do about absolutely every detail. I'm so excited for people to hear it.”
“DRAGON”
“Dragon is the star song off my debut EP. It was written about the feeling of fantasy created in your head after meeting someone for the first time and becoming completely infatuated with the idea of loving them. It's sweet and sensual, catchy, and brings you to a dreamy, cloud-filled sonic space.”
“WTCH”
"I love the lore of magic and things that we can't see with our own eyes, so I thought 'WTCH' fit perfectly into the album concept. There are people out there who think I sold my soul, and with this song I'm telling them, 'Maybe you just don't understand the art and that's okay.' It's okay to be different."
“DEATH WISH” featuring Danny Worsnop
“After writing the song I had a very specific vision for the video and knew it had to be perfect. Working with Dylan really helped bring everything together and I couldn't be happier with how it turned out! This one goes out to all the first responders out there! 'Death Wish' means a lot to me; it represents the next chapter of my life and my sound moving forward. I'm also very excited to have my buddy Danny Worsnop on the track. He brings the whole vision to life with his amazing vocals.”
“BATTLEGROUND”
“Sometimes the best thing to do is let go and walk away…even when it's hard. Love shouldn't be a war zone. I hope this song gives strength to those who are scared to leave.” - source : Apple Music
