Blusher Releases New EP “RACER”
Australian pop-trio Blusher, consisting of Miranda Ward (vocals/bass), Lauren Coutts (vocals/keyboards) and Jade Ingvarson-Favretto (vocals), released their sophomore EP “RACER” on July 31, 2025 via Atlantic Records and Warner Music Australia.
It is their first EP in two years since the 2023 debut EP “Should We Go Dance?”
The EP comprises 6 tracks and took shape during writing trips in Los Angeles, London, and Stockholm, produced by Austen, DonnyBravo, Jade Ingvarson-Favretto, Japanese Wallpaper, Lauren Coutts, Pearl Lion, Tiggs and Tyler Spry.
Miranda Ward said of the EP, “Imagine a rave thrown in the middle of the night on a racetrack with a lot of disco balls everywhere. We’re DJ-ing and we’re singing. Someone is breaking up on the dance floor, someone is confessing their love, people are making out, and somebody else is telling their friends how much they love them. We want Blusher to be the soundtrack to that night.”
Lauren Coutts continued, “When we first formed, the songs were inspired by conversations with girls in the club bathroom. On this EP, we pivoted slightly to the type of chat that happens in the girls’ locker room, those confessional, team moments that every group of women has at some point, and that we have had a lot of experience with in doing our first tours.”- The trio said, “We wrote this EP as a soundtrack to becoming the most resilient, daring and full speed version of yourself. So many chaotic late nights, production sessions on aeroplanes, unsolicited love advice and biased pep talks with each other went into making these songs. We combined strengths and figured out how to turn heartbreak into a team sport.”

Blusher explained track-by-track for the EP.
“RACER”
“Being a Racer means being your own stunt person, the main character of your own life. It’s being the person to start the dance floor while the rest of the party is worrying about what people think.
The song was written the morning after we went to a secret rave in downtown LA. We danced under a bridge and watched as people lit off fireworks from its highest point. The next day, sleep deprived and inspired, we bottled that feeling of euphoria and Racer was born. We want Racer to be the song that people turn up loud when they’re feeling sad or stressed, that helps them strut into the most unfazed, unstoppable, fastest version of themselves. It’s ultimately about our friendship and how we bring out the Racer in each other.”
“DON'T LOOK AT ME LIKE THAT”
“We had been talking about finding out a good friend has a crush on you. We were inspired by the idea of an ‘Anti-Love song’. It can be taken in a flirtatious way, or you could be saying you don’t want the attention. The double-meaning is fun.”
“LAST MAN STANDING”
“Last Man Standing is a celebration of passion, determination and grit. We formed this band because we wholeheartedly love making music and we do it for the love of the sport. As long as we can say we have put all our sweat and conviction into the art, who cares if anyone else likes it.
Jade grew up performing in an ABBA tribute band with her family, and it feels like some of that nostalgia has melted into the DNA of this song. We hope it fills you with the sparkly, scrappy energy you need to stay late, dance harder and give your all. If clubbing is our sport, this song is the team anthem.”
“MARATHON” via Music Feeds
“Miranda started this song in London on a really beautiful summer day. It’s a love song to your friend going through a breakup, or getting you through a breakup. The idea of dragging your girls on a marathon night out to get through the heartbreak was the first little seed of the sporty conceptual world of Racer, and inspired a lot of Pinterest boards filled with jersey corsets and vintage Adidas boxing boots. We feel like every body of work needs one song that’s a bit of a wildcard, “the weird guy” as we like to say, and ‘Marathon’ fills that space for this EP.”
“WHATEVERWHATEVER”
“This song is for the times when you just need to be reminded - 'it's not that deep'. We wanted to make something you can yell in your car to shake off the pressure and heaviness. We wrote this to remind ourselves that to truly be creative you have to let go. We wrote this song almost exactly a year ago, for you to turn up in your car when you're racing down the highway. For when the world is stressing you out, or when you're the one stressing yourself out.”
“RUNNING TO YOU” via Music Feeds
“We’ve spent a lot of time in the past few years either on tour or living overseas, all while in long-distance relationships. This song is an earnest moment of confessing your love, and putting all your defenses aside. As tough as you are on the outside, there’s always a moment with that one person where you realise all the love song cliches are true. Fun fact about this song: Miranda dared Jade to see if she could sneak “golden retriever” into the lyrics somewhere, which she successfully did.
It felt important to show emotional contrast within this EP, but also to finish strong on an outro that makes you really want to get up and run. For the most part we love to play within the pop rules, but it just felt natural to be super indulgent and throw the rules out the window for the final sprint to the finish line of Racer. It’s the point in the night out when the sun is just coming up, the DJ is about to end her set on a euphoric high note and your mind turns to the person or people you love.”
