  • 5 Seconds of Summer's Michael Clifford Releases New Song “kill me for always” featuring Porter Robinson

  • Australian pop rock band 5 Seconds of Summer's guitarist Michael Clifford released a new song “kill me for always” on June 25, 2025.

The song is the third single, following “cool” and “give me a break!” featuring Waterparks, from his upcoming debut solo album “SIDEQUEST”, which is set to be released on July 25, 2025 via Hopeless Records.
On the track, he teamed up with American DJ and singer-songwriter Porter Robinson. This marks the first collaboration between Michael Clifford and Porter Robinson.
The track was written by Michael Clifford, Noah Luke Nockels, Oscar Neidhardt, and Porter Robinson. Produced by Michael Clifford, JT Daly, Porter Robinson, Rudey, and Oscar Neidhardt.

Michael Clifford said of the song, “Porter Robinson has been my favourite artist for a really long time. The idea of us creating something together was just a pipe dream to me. ‘kill me for always’ was a song that took a lot of trial and error to get this song 100% right. As the first track off my upcoming album, I think it perfectly sets the tone of the beginning of a story.”

He shared on social media, “I big time manifested this. Porter is my favorite artist and this is still wild that I'm even writing this wow ily porter.”
  • The debut album comprises 10 tracks, featuring guest appearances from Porter Robinson, Waterparks, and Ryan Hall.
In support the album, Michael Clifford will perform SIDEQUEST live one night only at the Fonda on July 31, 2025.

Michael Clifford said of the album, “I had an album pretty much done. After being a parent, I sort of looked at it again and scrapped a lot of it, and sort of like started over. I'm like a chronic over-thinker and over-analyzer.”

  • He told Rolling Stone last year, “I’m a serial over-thinker when it comes to anything in terms of my own production. Sometimes it’s crippling, and I’ll just be completely frozen to the point where I’m like, well, I don’t know if this is good, and I don’t know if changing it is good... I’m realizing that there are other incredibly talented people who, if they think something is great, then I’m just sort of being crazy and overthinking the tiny little things. It got to the place that it got to for a reason and maybe you don’t need to dissect things into oblivion in order for it to be any better.”
