Franz Ferdinand Releases Two New Versions of “Build It Up” featuring Johnny Marr & “Hooked” featuring Master Peace
Scottish rock band Franz Ferdinand, consisting of Alex Kapranos (lead vocals/lead guitar), Bob Hardy (bass), Julian Corrie (keyboards), Dino Bardot (rhythm guitar) and Audrey Tait (drums), released two new versions of “Build It Up” and Hooked” on June 24, 2025.
The original versions of two songs are featured on their sixth studio album “The Human Fear”, which was released back in January.
Both songs were written by Alex Kapranos and Julian Corri. Produced by Mark Ralph.
The new version of “Build It Up” features British guitarist and singer-songwriter Johnny Marr.
Franz Ferdinand and Johnny Marr first performed the song at Amazon Music Live City Sessions in March 2025.
The band frontman Alex Kapranos said of the new version, “Johnny is an inspiration. Literally. I sat in my bedroom as a teenager trying to work out how to play his melodies. To hear his distinctive playing on our song is glorious. He's elevated it in that way only he can.”- Meanwhile, the new version of “Hooked” features British rapper Master Peace. It was recorded during a show at the Barrowlands in Glasgow.
Master Peace said, “Sharing the stage with one of my favourite bands is still mind blowing to me. What a tour! What a band! 16 for 16, met some of the best people this last month and had some of the best experiences of my life. Thank you Alex and the FF team for having me, I learnt and saw so much that I will treasure for ever.” -
