Chance the Rapper Releases New Song “Tree” featuring Lil Wayne & Smino
American rapper Chance the Rapper joined forces with American rappers Lil Wayne and Smino to release a new song “Tree” on July 3, 2025.
The song will appear on his upcoming sophomore album “STAR LINE”, which is expected to be released in 2025.
For Chance the Rapper and Lil Wayne, the song marks their first collaboration in eight years since DJ Khaled's “I'm the One” in 2017.
Meanwhile, Chance the Rapper and Smino have worked together for “Eternal”, which is featured on Chance the Rapper's debut album “The Big Day” in 2019, and MadeinTYO's 2020 single “BET Uncut”.
The track extols the virtues of smoking weed. It was written by Chancelor Bennett, Christopher Smith Jr., Dexter Coleman, and Dwayne CarterGroove. Produced by Groove and DEXLVL.
The accompanying music video was directed by Chance the Rapper himself.- Chance the Rapper told Zane Lowe of Apple Music about the song, “So as soon as I heard the beat, I knew what this was gonna be. And, you know, Smino, who's been, one of my friends, for years and years and years. He came through the crib three years ago, and he brought his producer Groove. Me and Vic Mensa was there. Vic is not credited on the song, but he's got backing vocals on the hook. But it came from, like a session of us, just like sitting around and like being creative. And when I first heard this beat, it just took me back to sitting on the back seat on my mom's car. It made me feel all these emotions and all these have all these memories, but also feel empowered. And so I just sat with the song, and it's been finished for a long time I've known I've rewritten parts and we've re recorded the choir, and Wayne eventually got on in different things happen. But it was from when I first heard it, I knew what it was.”
