Damiano David Releases Debut Solo Album “FUNNY little STORIES”
Italian rock band Måneskin's frontman Damiano David released his debut solo album “FUNNY little STORIES” on May 16, 2025 via Sony Music Italy and Arista Records.
The album comprises 14 tracks, featuring guest appearances from British singer-songwriter Suki Waterhouse and American singer-songwriter d4vd.
Produced by Connor McDonough, Jackson Rau, Jason Evigan, John Hill, Labrinth, Mark Schick, Riley McDonough, Ryan Daly, Sammy White and Sammy Witte.
Ahead of the release of the album, he unveiled a short film “FUNNY little STORIES” directed by Shake Plastik Dreamer, which features four songs from the album.
Damiano David said of the album, “I've described FUNNY LITTLE FEARS as the emotional diary of my past year. Writing it helped me overcome certain emotional blocks and anxieties, and allowed me to reveal a personal and musical side that is important to me.”- He continued, “I've always been afraid of heights, that any moment the ground breaks apart under my feet and in one second, everything's gone. I've been afraid of darkness, an immensity I don't get to see or understand, that might take me if I don't watch my steps. I've been afraid of myself, asking for too much, chasing something I didn't even know if I really wanted. And honestly sometimes I'm still scared, but I wrote myself a manual. Hope u find it helpful too.”
- Damiano David told Travis Mills of Apple Music about the album, ““I think my biggest fear is loneliness. I really don't cope well when I'm traveling too much, and I'm never going back home or have my girlfriend or my close friends around. I start overthinking and hurting myself with my own thoughts. I'm still the frontman of Måneskin, and it's a big part of myself, but it's not my 100%. And for me, it's very important that people understand that. I've found myself very stuck in my dynamics, fears, and habits, and this album was a way to break it down. At the end of it all, I consider myself healed for most of it. It's like, 'Yes, you're scared, but everybody's scared. It's not a big deal. You can fight through it.'
Damiano David explained some tracks for the album.
“Voices”
“'Voices' is about my inner battle-everything that pulled me away from myself and from really understanding what I wanted... and more importantly, what I didn't want. This song is the final piece before the full story unfolds with the album. Funny Little Fears is basically my emotional diary from this past year. Writing it helped me work through some deep emotional blocks and anxiety, and let me show a more personal, maybe unexpected, side of myself-both musically and as a person. Releasing 'Voices' before the album feels like opening the last door, inviting everyone into my inner world, without fear.”
“Next Summer”
“At first listen, the song speaks about youthful love - an unrequited summer romance. But on a deeper level, it reveals a much larger reflection. It's an allegory of life -how sometimes we can be prisoners of ourselves, our fears, our insecurities, our inability to change. Our failure to see the world and life from a different perspective in the crucial and defining moments of existence.
I consider it a stadium ballad. Lighters up. It's weird for me because I am never really aware of what I'm doing, where I'm going, and what I'm talking about. I discover it later when I have the song in front of me. I never go in the studio with the idea: 'Today, we have to make a ballad. Today, we have to make a hit.' For me, it's like a big game. Let's write a song. If we do it, it's already a miracle because we got into a room where there's nothing and we get out with a song. It's already magic. It doesn't have to be a hit.”
“The Bruise” featuring Suki Waterhouse
“I love Suki's voice; it gives me the vintage vibes that I adore. Her overall look and image are so elegant and she is a perfect fit for a song like 'The Bruise.'”
“Born With A Broken Heart”
“When I wrote this song I was getting out of a very dark place, I was feeling emotionless and I was afraid that I had lost my ability to feel things, either good or bad. This was happening while I was starting the most meaningful relationship of my life and the fear of not being capable or ready was big. I think the song was a way to make myself make sense of what I was feeling and look at it from a less scary prospective. I'm happy to say that today I don't feel like this but I think a lot of people can relate with the feeling of not being good enough.”
“Tangerine” featuring d4vd
Damiano David: “d4dv is an artist I truly respect; his latest album is amazing. I couldn't be happier to know that he liked 'Tangerine' and wanted to collaborate on it. He added an incredible and distinct touch to the song.”
d4vd : “I was honored that Damiano invited me to be on his album. That's like the biggest honor that someone could give you and I've been a fan of him & Maneskin for so long now so it was a no brainer. And I love the song!”
“Silverlines”
“This song is very special to me. It was one of the first songs to be recorded on this new project, and at the time it represented a letter of hope, but now, if I look back, I can see how I am exactly where the song said I would be. It was automatic for me to pick this song as the beginning of this new chapter and I really hope that people are going to join me on this journey.
Yes, this is the first song, but emotionally, it's the last one, it's the end of the journey. After all this work, I found my silver lining and peace belongs to me. Because it's pretty unique compared to other songs on the record. Weirdly, it's the first song but for me, it's the closing of the circle and the end of my journey.
Also, it's with Labrinth - to make my debut with one of the biggest producers in the world is amazing. He was very accommodating. He asked me what I wanted to vocally contribute. It was great to blend our voices and experiment with that. That was the most meticulous part.” - source : Apple Music
