DJ Snake Releases New Short Movie “Patience” with Amadou & Mariam
French-Algerian record producer DJ Snake released a new short movie “Patience” on June 5, 2025.
A ten-minute movie captures the theme of the migration crisis in West Africa. The film premiered at the premiere at the Grand Rex in Paris.
The film was directed by Valentin Guiod, starring Omar Sy, Alassane Diong, Anna Thiandoum, Amadou Mbow, Ibrahima M'baye 'Thié', Amadou & Mariam, Souleymane Aidara, Papa Samba Ngom, and Marieme Faye.
This project was created across France, Senegal and Algeria.
In the film, DJ Snake reimagined West African duo Amadou & Mariam's 2008 classic “Sabali”. “Sabali” in Bambara means “Patience”.
The song will appear on his upcoming third studio album “Nomad”, which is set to be released on September 5, 2025.
The film tells the story of a young Senegalese man who was locked up in a detention camp. His only refuge in the nightmare days is his memories of his family, his childhood, his friends, and a budding love left behind in his homeland.- DJ Snake said of the project, “This one's deeper and more personal than usual - stepping into new territory and telling a story that matters. I think it is important for us to use our voices for the voiceless.”
He continued, “Each time, I try to explore new vibes, new inspirations, different parts of the world, and I had never really touched on West Africa. I thought of Omar [Sy], and I talked to Omar about it... And everything came together naturally. It took us almost a year and a half to get here today, in the suburbs of Dakar, Senegal. What’s funny is that ‘Sabali’ means patience.” -
Director Valentin Guiod chose this hybrid format, without dialogue, where the music supports the power of the story.
He said, “We wanted to tell this story with poetry. It was a common thread.”
Actor Omar Sy said, “He [DJ Snake] told me about the theme he wanted to explore, and at that moment, he also told me that he wanted to do it in Africa, in Senegal. Obviously, that resonated with me, and I could definitely help in that regard. So, that's how we started.”
He continued, “He brought up the scene because he had seen Tirailleurs and thought it was a good idea. And as things unfolded, we thought, ‘Why not a little cameo as well?’ And here we are.”
He added, “For me, the departure was a phone call from DJ Snak. He played me the track, gave me the idea for the video, what he had in mind. He thought Senegal would be a good place.” - source : Apple Music
