YUNGBLUD Covers The Verve's “Bitter Sweet Symphony” on BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge
British singer-songwriter YUNGBLUD appeared on BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge to perform a cover of British rock band The Verve's “Bitter Sweet Symphony” and his latest song “Zombie”.
The original version of “Bitter Sweet Symphony” was released by The Verve as the lead single from their third studio album “Urban Hymns” in 1997.
The track was written by Richard Ashcroft and reached No. 2 on the UK Singles Chart.
YUNGBLUD said of the cover, “I think this album, and Richard Ashcroft really has been such a massive inspiration to what we've just made and what's coming out on Friday. I think we really wanted to try and make something classic. And that gives it that thing, that's five dimensional with emotion. And this song, honestly, I feel so lucky we get to play this on radio right now. I can't believe it. It's been a song that stuck with me forever and really lifted me up when I was lost. So I open. I hope we do it justice.”- “Zombie” was released last month from his upcoming fourth studio album “Idols”, which is set to be released this Friday (June 20th).
The track features London Philharmonic Orchestra. It was written by Dominic Harrison, and Matt Schwartz, who also produced the track.
YUNGBLUD said of the song, “The song was written initially about my grandmother going through serious injury and trauma, leading her to become a different person to who she was before. It's about the feeling of deterioration and ugliness; shutting out the world and the people we love out of the fear of becoming a burden or an embarrassment. We all want someone or something to comfort us, no matter how we are right now or who we become in the future. But it's fucking scary.” - source : BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge
