John Oates Announces New Album “OATES”, Shares New Song “Enough Is Enough” featuring Lawrence
American singer-songwriter and former American pop-rock duo Hall & Oates' John Oates has announced his upcoming self-titled solo album “OATES” will be released on August 29, 2025.
The album follows the 2024 album “Reunion” and comprises 13 tracks, featuring guest appearances from Lawrence and Devon Gilfillian.
From the album, he unveiled a new song “Enough Is Enough” on June 20, 2025.
The song is the second single off of the album, following “Mending” featuring Devon Gilfillian, which was released last September.
This time, he teamed up with New York-based pop duo Lawrence on the track.
The track was written by Clyde Lawrence, Gracie Lawrence, and John Oates. Produced by David Kalmusky and John Oates.
John Oates told WKRN News 2 about the song, “I think that the title kind of says it all. You can make what you will of it. There's so much going on in the world. There's so much going on my personal life. There's so much going on with politics and the crazy stuff. And it's just sometimes it feels like it's too much. And I thought of that title, and I said, I bet you a lot of people feel like that sometimes you just wake up, you go, enough is enough.”- He continued, “And then I heard this amazing group called Lawrence, the band. It's actually a brother and sister team from New York. But they have an incredible band with them. And I was listening to their music. And it was so joyous and upbeat. And I thought it's kind of a cool thing to kind of put this title. That's kind of what does it really mean against this really fun groove. And I said, 'I want to see if I can write a song that sounds like them.' And I did. And I wrote a song this really sounds like them. So I sent it to them, and they really loved it, and I used part of their lyrics for the second verse. And it became a collaboration. I went to New York and we put their vocals on it, cut it in Nashville with my Nashville group. But I went to New York and put them on it, and it's great.”

He added, “They're really unique. Clyde is the older brother. And he is I really think and I will honestly say he's a musical genius. He's incredible. And his sister, Gracie, is in one of the best singers I've ever heard. In fact, she's starring in a Broadway show. She was just up for a Tony, but it's the Jimmy, it's a Bobby Darin story. And we went to see the show when we were in New York recently. And she's just, she's a force of nature. And together, they're just really, really great. I think they're kind of everything that's good about young pop would everything it should be good about young pop music. They're very musical. They're very real, and it really appeals to me. And I was just great to become friends with them.”
