YUNGBLUD Releases New Song “Zombie”
Earlier this month, British singer-songwriter YUNGBLUD announced his fourth studio album “Idols” would be released in June 20, 2025 via Locomotion/Island Records.
The 12-track album is the first part of his first double album, with the second instalment's release date yet to be confirmed.
From the album, he released a new song “Zombie” on May 30, 2025.
The song is the third single off of the album, following “Lovesick Lullaby” and “Hello Heaven, Hello”.
He first performed the song at Scala in London back in March.
The track features London Philharmonic Orchestra. It was written by Dominic Harrison, and Matt Schwartz, who also produced the track.
The accompanying music video was directed by Charlie Sarsfield, featuring British actress Florence Pugh.- YUNGBLUD said of the song in a statement, “The song was written initially about my grandmother going through serious injury and trauma, leading her to become a different person to who she was before. It's about the feeling of deterioration and ugliness; shutting out the world and the people we love out of the fear of becoming a burden or an embarrassment.”
He added, “We all want someone or something to comfort us, no matter how we are right now or who we become in the future. But it's fucking scary.” -
The new album consists of two parts and was created with help of producer Matt Schwartz, composer Bob Bradley and guitarist Adam Warrington.
YUNGBLUD said of the album, “I wanted to make a project that didn't focus on singles or anything else except feeling and world-building... A project with no limitations. We turn to others for an identity before turning to ourselves. Self-belief, self-reclamation, self-evolution and change. As we grow up, we lose our belief in magic and mystery. We begin to rationalise everything; our cage walls build up.”
He added, “We compare ourselves to 15 different people before we've even had our breakfast. A love letter to self-reclamation... to rock music... [and] to life; in all it's f*cking madness.”
