  • Ed Sheeran Releases New Song “Sapphire”

  • British singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran released the third single “Sapphire” from his upcoming eighth studio album “Play” on June 5, 2025, following “Azizam” and “Old Phone”.

This time, he worked with Indian singer-songwriter Arijit Singh on the track.
Both artists will release a Punjabi version of the song in the next few weeks.
The track was written by Ilya Salmanzadeh, Arijit Singh, Avinash Chouhan, Ed Sheeran, Johnny McDaid, Mayur Puri, and Savan Kotecha.
The accompanying music video was directed by Liam Pethick, and filmed in Hyderabad and Kolkata, India. Also, Arijit Singh appeared on the video.

Ed Sheeran said of the song, “Sapphire was the first song I finished for Play that made me know where the album was heading. It's why I finished the recording process in Goa surrounded by some of the best musicians in India. It was an incredible creative process.”
  • He continued, “I shot the music video with Liam Pethick and Nic Minns across my India tour earlier this year, we wanted to showcase the beauty and breadth of the country and its culture. The final jigsaw piece for me was getting Arijit Singh on the record, but it was a journey to get there and such an amazing day of music and family.”

He added, “Me and him have done a full Punjabi version of the song that will come out in the next few weeks, which has a lot more of him on it. This is the album version of the song, and my favourite song on the album. Hope you guys love it.”

  • He said of India, “The first time I came over here (India), I went to a small party with a bunch of people. Those were big stars in Bollywood. And I think that kind of opened the door. There's a lot of Indian music that's fantastic. I'd say that's kind of what I've been listening to the most for the last like a year and a bit. I have listened to a lot of Diljit Dosanjh. I think he is great.”
