Lorde Releases New Song “Man Of The Year”
New Zealand singer-songwriter Lorde released a new song “Man Of The Year” on May 29, 2025.
The song is the second single off of her upcoming fourth studio album “Virgin”, following “What Was That” released last month.
The album is set to be released on June 27, 2025.
The track was written and produced by Lorde and Jim-E Stack. The accompanying music video was directed by Grant Singer.
Lorde said of the song, “Man Of The Year. An offering from really deep inside me. The song I'm proudest of on Virgin.”
She continued, “Biking. Smoking. Swimming. New strength in my shoulders. Feeling something awakening. First taping my chest. So scared to be him. The GQ party. Laying back on the white couch w the mic in my hand and letting it happen. Sun. Persimmons and walnuts. Vocals with ams. Trying to make it sound like a Fontana, like painting bitten by a man, like the New York earth room. The sound of my rebirth.”- The new album comprises 11 tracks, on which Lorde co-produced and co-wrote with producer Jim-E Stack, with additional production contributions from Dev Hynes, Dan Nigro, Fabiana Palladino, Andrew Aged and Buddy Ross.
It is her first album in four years since the 2021 album “Solar Power”.
Lorde told Rolling Stone about the album, “This is going to sound crazy, but I said to myself, 'We get it. You're smart. You don't need to telegraph it. Whereas in the past, I'm really trying to craft these lyrics. This time I was like, 'No, be smart enough to let it be really basic. Be plain with language and see what happens.'”
She added, “I'm very vibes-based. just have to trust when my intuition says to keep moving.” -
