Daisy the Great Releases New Song “Bird Bones”
Brooklyn-based alt-pop band Daisy The Great, consisting of Kelley Nicole Dugan (vocals/keyboards) and Mina Walker (vocals/guitar), released a new song “Bird Bones” on May 29, 2025.
The song is the third single off of their upcoming third studio album “The Rubber Teeth Talk”, which is set to be released on June 27, 2025.
The track is dedicated to their friend Stephanie Rae Shafir, who passed away on February 26, 2023.
It was written by Bernardo Ochoa, Kelley Nicole Dugan, Matti Dunietz, and Mina Walker. Produced by Catherine Marks.
The accompanying music video was directed by Kelley Nicole Dugan and Mina Walker, drawings by Stephanie Rae Shafir.
Mina Walker said of the song, “Bird Bones was inspired by the loss of one of our dearest friends, Stephanie Shafir. After she passed, my room was filled with little glass dolls and clothes and drawings that she'd left for me, infused with her presence and love. Around that time, I was on a long walk next to a cemetery near my home and I saw a whole bird skeleton in the road, and it felt like another little glass doll left for me to find from Steph. I wrote this song as a comforting reminder that she will never disappear.”- The band shared, “Bird Bones was written in memory of our dear friend, Stephanie Rae Shafir, who passed away Feb 26, 2023. All of the drawings in the video are hers. Thank you to all of her family and friends who helped us collect them.”
The new album comprise 11 tracks, produced by Catherine Marks. It is their first album in three years since the 2022 album “All You Need Is Time”. The album features Bernardo Ochoa on guitar and Matti Dunietz on drums.
Kelley Nicole Dugan and Mina Walker said of the album, “The whole band came every day, even if they weren't recording. It felt like such a family. We joked, bickered, and jammed, taking time to find really cool sounds as we knew we wanted the record to be super lush and full of little pockets – different worlds. A lot of the album is about self-perception, comparison, and insecurity in some way. There's also a thread about fear and trusting yourself that things will be okay. Trusting that it's an adventure, or a journey, and finding a way to stick around through the messiness.” -
Producer Catherine Marks said, “We laughed a lot making this record but there were also many moments that made us shed a little tear. When I first heard the songs I was immediately transported into their world. I love the character and sonic identity we've created for each song, guided by their storytelling. This album is so undeniably them and I love it.” - source : Apple Music
